notes

This is the third release – but his first nothing•but•storytelling album – from noted storyteller and songwriter, Andy Offutt Irwin.
With a manic Silly Putty voice, astonishing mouth noises,
and hilarious stories, he is equal parts mischievous school boy
and the Marx Brothers,
peppered with a touch of the Southern balladeer.
Andy is one vibrantly odd bird,
with feathers that tease, tickle
and tug at the heart –
And a whopper of a personality,
which barely fits in most rooms.
People are drawn to him
like magnets to a refrigerator.
And inside,
it's all Mountain Dew and Jolt Cola.

Andy was a Featured Teller at the 2005 and 2007 National Storytelling Festivals and he’ll be back in 2008 for a featured solo concert, the Friday Midnight Cabaret. He has been a Featured Teller at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in Orem, UT; The San Francisco Bay Area Storytelling Festival; Cave Run Storytelling Festival, Morehead, KY; The Sweet Pea Festival, Bozeman, MT; The Stitching Stars Festival, Athens, GA; Hoosier Storytelling Festival, Indianapolis, IN; The Mesa, AZ Storytelling Festival; The Ojai, CA Storytelling Festival; The Winter Tale Festival, Oklahoma, OK; TaleSpin Festival, Chattanooga, TN; The St. Louis Storytelling Festival; The Kearney, NE Storytelling Festival; The Multnomah Storytelling Festival, Portland, OR; The Azalea Storytelling Festival, LaGrange, GA…um…that’s enough.

A native of Covington, GA, Andy started out in comedy, but added music and storytelling because he had a lot more to say. He served for sixteen years as Artist-In-Residence at Oxford College of Emory University where he is still called on to direct plays from time to time. He spent five years writing, directing and performing with the comedy improv troupe, SAK Theatre at Walt Disney World, but he’s had lots of more interesting life experience-type jobs including – but not limited to – actor; camp counselor; political satirist; youth director; janitor; deputy voter registrar; theatre orchestra conductor; garbage man; teacher; carpenter’s flunky; and bullfrog tadpole catcher (Honest).

I saw Andy in person recently in Anderson, SC. This is a talented man! His "sound effects" and storytelling ability are incredible. As a fellow child of the red clay hills, I strongly recommend that you encourage more of his work by buying and telling others about this unique man.

Great album. I was not disappointed. I attended the Storytellers Festival in Oct. at Jonesborough and really enjoyed Spinners and Book Every Saturday for a Funeral. I hope he will do more CD's soon with more stories about Aunt Marguerite. Lots of laughs and lots of fun listening.

  • Brings back so many hilarious memories!
    author: MB

Andy's stories of Aunt Marguerite truly remind me of my own family. I have lived some very similar stories in Covington. The voices and accents he uses are the ones I hear in my own family and friends. For me some of the best parts are when he names specific places because I'm transported there immediately. Thanks for telling the stories Andy--I feel like I'm there with my own kin again!

  • An award winner!

This is a great album and I'm not the only one that thinks so. "Christmas at Southern White Old Lady Hospital" was awarded the 2006 Storyteller Album of the Year Award by Just Plain Folks, a community of over 40,000 music industry professionals. Glad they agree with me.

  • LOVE Aunt Marguerite!!! We hope Andy Irwin does a lot more with her

Everyone that has listened to this CD wishes they had an Aunt Marguerite. Hope there is a lot more of her coming on the next several CDs.

  • Andy is funny and heartwarming

This is a collection of Andy Irwin's stories about his family, especially his Aunt Marguerite. If you love family stories, unique individuals, or just good comedy, this is a great CD to buy. Andy Irwin does it well. Totally impressed.

  • I think almost all families have an aunt Marguerite
    author: Elaine Baker

Andy Irwin introduces you to his Aunt Marguerite in a series of peeks into the past. He brings her alive with his stories and you can see her in your own mind. It is a wonderful look at this lady and you soon realize how much she resembles your aunt or grandma. Thank you so much for bringing back memories long forgotten.
