I love Anthrophobia
author: KarenIt's sad to hear this is the final Anthrophobia CD. It is their best. If you don't own it, you should get it right away. If you like Motorhead, Henry Rollins, Clutch, The Melvins, or Turbonegro this is for you.
Killer live band releases it's best CD to date!
author: JTAnthrophobia has always been alittle bit better live than on CD. Their CDs never catured the energy the band gives you on stage. The Cd, "Ultrasound" proves this statement wrong. Ultrasound has the songs and production to make this release the bands best ever. The energy is finally captured. It Rocks from beginning to end. I don't like Motley Crue, but, I like Anthrophobia's cover of Bastard alot. Great way to close a masterpiece type listening experience.
Cd is better than these guys live
author: Eddie MontroseThis CD is recorded great and has a big rock sound, better than most indie label bands. I heard a lot of hype about these guys and saw a video on Videos On Demand for a song off their last CD. Which I picked up at a show I saw them playing at in my hometown. I saw these guys live in West Virginia last year and thought they were OK. They got their asses handed to them by the band they were on tour with at the time, Year Long Disaster. But, I listened to the myspace songs and remembered them playing Lemmy's Warts. The best song I heard in a long time. I thought I'd get the Cd and it is really good, Lemmys Warts is the best song along with Half Annihilated too. The singer is a great singer/screamer and the band rocks. The Cd is better than their show, so, buy the CD, and maybe give them a chance at a show if they tour in your town, just don't drive too far outta your way to see them.
Anthrophobia at it's finest!
author: Gary SnyderMaybe in this band's next lifetime they will rule the earth. They are so much far superior in the songwriting craft than most others in the hard rock genre. Intelligent, yet fun, complex made simple, abrasive yet listenable with a wide appeal. Frank Phobia's vocals are as distinct as any of the greats and the band members each "own" their intrument. Obey the laws of Anthrophobia. They absolutely rule and this CD is their shining moment. Flawless.
Frantic, Upbeat, Too Short!
author: ScottThe songs on the Cd are good and they are recorded very well. But, it's only like 33 minutes long!!! A CD can fit twice as many songs. Go back to the studio, Anthrophobia. Re-release Ultrasound with bonus songs! I want more Anthrophobia!
Best CD, Anthrophobia's last, Ultrasound!!!
author: KelleeUltrasound starts out with an intro with babies crying and laughing, I bet it's their kids! The end of a great band, kids, the Yoko Ono of the best bands. Well, maybe, the kids are what inspired these guys from Pa. to write their bast CD ever. I have been a fan since the Dave Lord/In the Zero To 3 Movement era. (Ricci and Gathering Dust are classics!). But, this CD is not only the best Anthrophobia CD, it's better than anything on rock radio. The songs Half Annihilated and Short Attention Span are hits that only the inside few know about, come aboard, before it's too late. Brent Black is an absolute guitar hero and the bass playing by Eric is way better than anything he did in his old band, Dead 50's, totally grooves. Frank Phobia is a GOD, period and Joe's drumming is better than ever.I just heard the band is breaking up in Nov. 2007. PLEASE DON'T BREAK UP!! If they really do call it a day, at least they know they were the best band from Reading, Pa. to ever exist!
Ultra GREAT
author: Andrew MarksUltraBIG UltraKICKASS UltraROCK UltraRiffs UltraSLICk = ULTRASOUND. The Best Anthrophobia CD ever!!!! "Trip Fontaine" and "One Last warning" are the best Anthrophobia songs since Perfection and Vanishing from the Pulse CD !!!
Doing Motorhead justice!
author: Shinbone MagazineLet me start by saying that any band that has a song called Lemmy’s Warts that is an ode to Motorhead and all their greatness is all right in my book. The fact that the song in question kicks as much ass as any full bore Motorhead song is icing on the cake. This is my first exposure to Anthrophobia and it seems that I have been missing the boat. These guys are right up my alley. Dirty, straight forward, aggressive, unrelenting metal in the vein of Clutch when they are pushing their Pure Rock Fury agenda or The Melvins when they are not being weird and experimental. Another band that comes to mind is Alabama Thunderpussy and their recently released Open Fire album. Frank Phobia, vocals, even sounds a bit like our majesty, King Buzzo (The Melvins) and Neil Fallon (Clutch). The rest of the band is tight and the performances are top notch as is the punchy production which is also provided by Frank Phobia. There is no room to breathe during the album’s brief running time (about 32 minutes) and it doesn’t even come close to over staying its welcome. Their featured track is “Half Annihilated,” and it clocks in at under three minutes, like many of the songs on the album. It is a straight ahead riff rocker that gets to the point. Brent Black throws in a screechy solo about a minute and a half in after a brief false stop and some weird noise that keeps thing moving forward to the track’s conclusion. Eric Dress’ frantic bass underneath the solo is also worth noting. Other highlights include One Last Warning, Trip Fontaine, and “Take it the Wrong Way” which features some toy store keyboards accenting the chaos and a humorous sounding little solo with said keyboards. The album ends with a cover of Motley Crue’s “Bastard” that “fits in well with the batch of sounds we wrote” according to the album’s liner notes. It does. For Fans of: Alabama Thunderpussy – Open Fire • The Melvins – A Senile Animal • Clutch – Blast Tyrant • Motorhead – Ace of Spades
Rock - Metal - Punk - YES
author: KirkOne of the most consistant bands ever. Each CD is better than the last and they are all really good! Ultrasound is loud, funny (sarcastic), and angry all at the same time. The songs are mostly fast, short songs that get to the point (I like that). All the guitar solos are kept short and sweet, Brent rocks the 6 strings like ZaKK Wylde and Greg Ginn combined. The solo on Half Annihilated is a good example. The rest of the band are equally great at their intrument, but, Brent Black's guitar playing is Anthrophobia's secret weapon. Everyone should buy this CD.
It doesn't get any better than this.
author: Brandon RoyerGreat songs. great recording. Great production. GREAT BAND. Listen to it and buy it.
Money's tight, buy this and listen over and over.
author: SheilaSome Cds have one good song on them and you feel ripped off. This CD by Anthrophobia is worth every penny! Some songs are better than others, but overall, if you wanna rock, buy Ultrasound! Listen to Lemmy's Warts, One Last Warning, Half Annihilated, and Up One Side and Down The Other. Nick D. from Spitcan sings backup on 2 songs and his voice goes very well with lead singer Frank Phobia.
Simply the best
author: NickThis CD is the best sounding CD I ever bought from a local band. They are from my hometown in PA. and they are the best band to ever come out of Reading, Pa. They know how to throw down live and this CD sounds as exciting as it is to see them. it capured the vibe just right. The best songs are Lemmy's Warts (about the guy from Motorhead) and the song Take it The Wrong Way which is short, catchy, and has cool drums.
A Pleasant refreshing surprise!
author: Tom HarrisI can't put this band in any catagory other than balls out Rock. The songs have grooves in the abrasion of the tones and vocals. The quiet verse, loud chorus dynamic is very Nirvana sounding but they sound nothing like Nirvana! A little bit like the Bronx and Seemless. AC/DC, Motorhead, and punk rock base to build on. Good stuff you have to hear to understand.
East Coast's best rock band!
author: Dana CreepI moved to California 6 years ago and I kept telling everyone about how great this band Anthrophobia is!!! Now, they have a CD as good as they are live. The past Cds never captured how great this band is, Ultrasound is finally delivering the goods! The CD sounds better than most current hyped up, hot for 5 minute, type bands. The songs "One Last warning" and "Lemmy's Warts" are definately AC/DC and Motorhead inspired songs, the songs flow into each other very well and then they hit you with "Bastard" (originally by Motley Crue)to finish the disc. Note to band: TOUR IN SAN DIEGO , NOW!!!
Anthrophobia release Rock CD of the year!
author: JamesFrom the opening screams of the first song to the last note of the bands cover of Motley Crue's "Bastard", this CD is straight up killer! Highlights are the more punk-edged songs like "Trip Fontaine", "Lemmy's Warts" and "Take It The Wrong Way". but the whole CD is filled with great riffs and top notch vocals. The lyrics are clever and mostly audiable. By far the best money I've spent on music in 2007 so far.
Ageless and Classic
author: Jersey BeatANTHROPHOBIA – Ultrasound (DRP Records) Reading PA’s ageless metal gods Anthrophobia remind me more and more of NJ’s Electric Frankenstein. Both bands seem to have been around forever and both create a unique hard rock sound by cobbling together riffs, leads, and beats from punk, hardcore, classic rock, and metal. Ultrasound pounds your skull with short, rapidfire bursts of Frank Phobia’s trademark gutpunch vocals accompanied by blazing (but short and tasty) leads and a ferocious bottom. Highlights include the career-summing “Half Annihilated,” the hilarious (but powerful) “Trip Fontaine,” the pounding “A Buck Ninety Nine,” and the classic “Lemmy’s Warts.” Rumor has it that this may be the final Anthrophobia full-length, although certainly a career-spanning best-of and rarities disc would be welcome even if the band does decide to call it quits after 20-some odd years of sustained excellence and eclectic headbanging. Check them out while you can. – Jim Testa
After all these years, Anthrophobia are still pioneers into new ROCK territory!
author: Review Guy“Ultrasound” 11 tracks of angry rock / Metal from Anthrophobia. Anthrophobia is a hard working, uncompromising, original band, their driving force is of a band still fighting to make unique, aggressive, exciting music that a true metal fan can believe in. A powerful, heavy, metal, storm and seasoned songwriting, that is evident in all their songs shows an unparalleled uniqueness, that will once again position Anthrophobia as pioneers.
Ultrasound blew me away
author: AngelaHalf Annihilated kicks off the CD after the baby screaming intro and there is no stopping from that point! The best rock CD since AC/DC's Back In Black. The Motley Crue cover of Bastard approves upon the original. Everyone should have this CD if you like to rock out.
