Anthony (Tony) Ybarra has been a leader in the Flamenco Latino style. His deep understanding of Flamenco, Brazilian jazz, Salsa, Boleros, and American jazz has led him to craft out his own style which is rhythmical, melodic, and improvisational. In 2002, Tony formed his group “Sonido Moreno†which performs all styles of Latin and Flamenco jazz plus Ybarra’s own compositions.
Tony Ybarra and Sonido Moreno has performed all over the world and has gained recognition as the one of the most versatile groups in Latin Jazz. Tony has been performing all of his life and toured in Hong Kong, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, and all over the United States. He is also a recording artist and composer with three CDs under his name. Very few guitarists have gained the understanding of these diverse styles to the level that Tony has and then combines them with a strong jazz background. Tony graduated from the University of Southern California Studio Jazz Department with a Masters in Guitar Performance. There he studied with the finest guitarists in Los Angeles including Joe Diorio, Adam Del Monte, Frank Potenza, Steve Trovato, and Richard Smith. He also studied under guest artists Pat Metheny and Pepe Romero.
