Tony Guppy (Musician, composer, songwriter) was born in Trinidad & Tobago, which is also the birth place of the steel pan instrument. His interest in the steel pan started through the influences of his elder brothers, mainly Herman Guppy - ranked among the best manufacturers and Master Tuners of the steelpan (steeldrum).
Guppy a self-taught musician has acquired a lot of his musical knowledge from working and performing with some of the top music entertainers in Trinidad ; Ken Professor Philmore, Calypso legend 'Aldwyn Roberts' also known as the "Grand master of calypso". "Steelpan Legends" such as Len 'boogsie' Sharpe ; Rudy Smith, and Earl Rodney and Jazz pianist Ralph Davies to name a few.
Guppy is a past winner of the the prestigious national"Pan Ramajay contest" (Steelpan Improvisation contest) in Trinidad & Tobago.
Also represented Trinidad & tobago at the"20th International Trade Fair" held in Bogata ,Columbia (Soloist).
He has performed at Music festivals in all corners of the World. Some of the places guppy has toured includes (USA);Florida, Houston, New-york, California, Las Vegas, Mexico (Europe) ; Germany , sweden, Denmark, Asia and South America and japan. Japan : Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Osaka, Fukuoka, Miyazaki and Okinawa etc.
Recording of CD and Promotion video with Japanese Singer and Songwriter Shoichi Matsunaga; which resulted in a series of tours with Matsunaga throughout japan.
2006 Guppy released his debut Album "Another Side Of Me" which was recoreded in Okinawa, and is now being sold in stores throughout Japan.
Guppy is able to evoke a sense of mystery in his playing, his melodious rhythms transcend any particular style of music.
Modern, fresh, invigorating everything from Jazz, Blues and Funk, soul and R&B to Reggae, Latin, African, Asian and Calypso music . An enticing blend of musical styles coming from a creative adventurous spirit.
