notes

After many years of hard work and perseverance Angwish has emerged as one of Charlotte, North Carolina’s top alternative groups. Band leader Bryan Bielanski (guitar, vocals) formed the group in late 1996 and endured a series of unsuccessful incarnations with several different members in the early years. He later was joined by Rachael Malmberg (bass, vocals) and Mookie Perez (drums). Their sound can be described as hook-oriented power-pop with punk and hard rock undercurrents.

Angwish released its debut EP in August 1998, “QFQ”, on its own label which caught the attention of indie label Street Records (based in Charleston, SC). In 1999 Street Records released the band’s first full-length CD, “Prototype”. Angwish went on two east coast tours following its release playing venues and colleges in Philadelphia, Hartford, CT, Cleveland, Atlantic City, Nashville, Atlanta, Athens, GA, Myrtle Beach and many other cities.

In 2002 the band recorded and released its second album on Street Records, “485”, and continued playing shows in North Carolina and abroad. 2005 has been the band’s most successful year to date with another east coast tour, a spot in the Austrian division of Red Bull’s advertisement films and in the independent film, “Seeds”. Their newest and best release, the “All the Problems” EP is due for release Dec. 2005 and the band plans to extensively tour the US and perhaps abroad in 2006.

2004 saw the end of Street Records so “All the Problems” is being released on the Angwish record label KEH Records. The band is currently seeking to sign with an indie or major label that shares their ambition and artistic vision.

  • Top-notch rock n roll.

All The Problems ep is bloody amazing. A great mix of feeling and musical colour on this disc. These guys are onto something ace. The title track is definitely the stand-out - but the other three easily hold their own.
