notes

Grammy Award Winner (2007) for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra.

The Gramophone (U.K.) noted Angelin Chang's “ alternately prismatic and pointed artistry” and found it "invariably excellent."

From Cleveland Chamber Symphony's collection of Music that Dares to Explore, this CD features four breath-taking works. Angelin Chang is piano soloist in Olivier Messiaen's Oiseaux Exotiques (Exotic Birds) and Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 35 (John Brndiar, trumpet) with John McLaughlin Williams conducting. Danceanu's Chinonic is conducted by Cleveland Chamber Symphony Founder/Music Director Edwin London. Ligeti's Chamber Concerto for 13 Instrumentalists is conducted by Alexander Mickelthwate.

"The stylistic range here presented is enormous - but it is all music addressed to open ears and open minds...Music is not a dead art. It is alive. it is being created all around us...by people who have something to say, who want to communicate with an audience by any and every musical means...Open your ears and your minds to the contents of these recordings. They speak for themselves - but more important, they are addressing YOU." - Robert Finn (music critic of the Cleveland Plain Dealer of 28 years)
