Andres Thor, b. 1974 in Reykjavík started his music studies at the age of 12 at the local musicschool playing the classical guitar and at age 15 the electric guitar. Later he studied at the Musicians Union Musicschool in Iceland and gratuated in the spring of 1999. after gratuating Andres went to the Netherlands to study at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag where he studied with Eef Albers, Peter Nieuwerf, Wim Bronnenberg, Hein Van de Geyn and John Ruocco. Andres finished his BA in music in 2004 and MA in music in 2006. While studying in The Netherlands Andres performed at various venues in The Netherlands and also in Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany with various musicians but mostly the organtrio Wijnen, Winter & Thor that among other places performed at the Reykjavik jazzfestival in 2003 and released the record "It was a very good year" in 2004. One of Andres Thor´s compositions from that cd named Thordisdance was nominated for the Icelandic music awards that year. In the summer of 2006 Andres released his first Cd as a leader called "New Day" and containes his own compositions. In june 2007 The band BonSom, a collective band that features Andres-guitar, Eyjolfur Thorleifsson-tenor sax, Toggi Jonsson-double bass Scott McLemore-drums, released their first cd titled simply "BonSom" check out www.myspace.com/bonsom for some music examples and more info. Andres is currently working as a musician and teacher in Iceland and is active in the Icelandic Jazz scene.
