AñaVañA (pronounced onya-vonya) is a Rock / Reggae band from New York City. The group signed with Zip Records in December of 2003, and their debut album has been released to rave reviews:

very good album
author: Ras RichardI am mostly a 70's roots reggae listener but I also listen to other genres as well. AnaVana reminds me of the punk bands of the 80's mixed with modern sounds. Their sound is very unique and I highly recommend it.....Jah Bless!!!

The sound of the band is reminiscent of No Doubt, 311 and the soulful Ska music Fishbone played. This is a must have in your cd collection.
Singer/Songwriting and rock rarely combine as well as they do on this CD.
author: Dave Howell (FM Sound)AñaVañA presents itself as a rock/reggae band, although they actually have much more to offer. The songwriting by bandleaders Annastasia Victory and Ian C. Bouras is what stands out here. The songs are based around Victory's singing, as they should be. She can sing both grunge rock, as on the opener "Colors Fading," and ballads like "I'm Responsible." All of the twelve cuts are love songs, although most of them are about love gone wrong. The titles "Backstabber" and "Had Me Fooled" pretty much tell the story. The only reggae instrument is Bouras's rhythm guitar. His overtracked guitar leads are rooted in rock. A few songs, though, like "Captain Careless," have a nice Jamaican lilt. Even though all the songs are written by two people and share similar themes, they vary enough to maintain interest. Victory plays piano on "You Can't Read My Mind". A few, like “Bow Your Head,” have snatches of Middle Eastern music. And a few are truly great, like the melodic, radio-friendly "Had Me Fooled," and "One Good Reason" which features Victory's dramatic singing in a slight Russian accent (her full name is Annastasia Victory Kuporosova). All too often ballads are the kiss of death on rock-based CDs, but "Just Wanted to Love You” is great, reminiscent of a Dido song (only far better). Others like “Let Me Be,” sound a bit like Sade with a heavier beat. Singer/songwriting and rock rarely combine as well as they do on this CD. Hopefully we will hear many more songs from this duo.

Cool stuff
author: Collected SoundsAñaVañA is classified as Reggae, and I guess they are, but not your classic Marley reggae. They have a definite pop flair to them as well. Maybe even ska, as they remind me a little of No Doubt. Annastasia Victory is the lead singer as well as keyboard player. Her voice is not as high and childish as Gwen Stefani's voice, but still has a little bit of a girly quality. The main difference is that Victory can also belt it out as well as purr and all in that oh so slight and lovely accent that I can't quite place. The musicianship in this band is very professional as is the production. High quality in both regards. This is radio worthy.
