Amy Lou’s Blues is a high energy jump blues and r&b band that plays a variety of old school music that gets people smiling and moving. This highly entertaining band of hep cats features Amy Lou on blues-shouting vocals, sass and swagger. She is one be-boppin R&B mama who clearly loves what she does with a rockin band that shares her passion. The band kicks out an upbeat blues you can dance to, and bring back the rocking and rolling blues from days gone by with an eclectic mix of influences and a retro style that makes them unlike any other blues band around. The band is tight and has a lot of energy with a large repertoire that includes a crazy cool mix of jump blues, early R&B, rock and roll, swing, gospel blues, boogie-woogie, rockabilly, down-in-the-alley blues, and some funk to keep things twisting. They keep it rockin and rollin and boogie woogie till they drop!
The driving force behind the Amy Lou’s Blues band is their energy. It is non stop. They don’t play to the crowds, they play with them! Amy Lou knows how to work a crowd and reel them in. Once the music starts, anything goes and the music takes them there. You may find Amy Lou off the stage and up on the bar, outside and singing to people in the streets, or dancing with the patrons. The band shimmy and shakes, with hair flying every which way. Everywhere they go, they leave their mark; a stage with a feathers strewn all over the place. This band brings out the best in each other and together and they deliver unforgettable performances everywhere they play. The constant theme with this band is fun. “Where do you get all that energy?” “I didn’t know blues could be so fun!” and “I get tired just watching you guys!” are things they hear all the time. They are one helluva good time!
Amy Lou’s Blues features some of the bay area's finest blues musicians. All five band members sing lead and backup vocals, including all the "ooo-wahs," "yep-yeps," and "uh-HUHs" you could ever want, which lends them a truly diverse sound. The mad guitar styling’s of Scott Miller range from uptown fast-fingered chops to that early greasy dirt tone that takes it back. Gary Rosen keeps things jumping and tight on the bass, both electric and stand-up. He has played with many greats for over 30 years, including performances at the SF Blues festival and backing up legends such as Lightnin' Hopkins, Lowell Fulson, and Mary Wells. Luke Piro, the comedian of the band, is an excellent drummer with precise dynamics, a cool retro style and plenty of mojo! Rounding off the band is Scott Porter on piano and organ, who has developed his own uniquely merciless blues piano-pounding technique, giving him the nickname as the “Jackie Chan of keyboards!” And Amy Lou holds nothing back! She has a deep passion of singing and her desire to share her light with others is contagious! She sings with such joy, conviction and energy, you will swear you’ve gone back in time to better days. This band makes ya feel good!
