AMUND MAARUD
PRESS RELEASE
When Amund Maarud got his first guitar at the age of six, he knew he was going to be a musician. Along with younger brother Henrik on drums – age four at the time, they started their own band. After 10 years of practicing and playing gigs all over eastern Norway, the brothers were signed to Tylden Records and released ”First Blues” in 1998 – only 14 and 16 years old!
With ”First Blues” came more gigs at both clubs and festivals as the brothers started making waves on the Norwegian blues scene. When the Maarud brothers moved to Norway`s capitol, Oslo in 2001, they started playing at the well known ”Muddy Waters” blues club in Oslo with New York bass player Bill Troiani, and became a regular feature there as the club`s house band. They played gigs as Amund Maarud Band, and played backup for national and international artists such as Brian Setzer, Tom Russel, Larry Burton, Bill Sims, and Mark Hummel.
Amund`s second album ”Ripped, Stripped and Southern Fried”, released on Blue Mood/BMG, was a big success both artistically and commercially by Norwegian standards with around 7500 units sold and nominated for the Spellemann (Norwegian Grammy Award) in the country/blues category in 2003. The following tour consisted of over a 100 shows in Norway, the U.S and Russia.
The next album, Commotion was released on RCA/BMG in 2004 and featured a more mature artist in a more song-based landscape, yet it was still a highly guitar-driven album. I also brought extensive touring as well as TV and radio performances in Norway, the U.S and Russia, and outlined the contours of a forming band, The Grand, with new members Per Tobro on bass and Eirik Tovsrud Knutsen on Hammond B3 Organ, in addition to the Maarud-brothers. As the influences have broadened to span early 70`s rock, psychedelia and punk in addition to the blues, the quartet boasts three part harmonies, swirling Hammond organ, out-of-wack guitar playing and a solid and pumping, yet inventive drum and bass foundation.
Their trademark is adrenaline-fueled, gut-wrenching live appearances and showmanship honed through hundreds and hundreds of shows, and still evolving.
The Grand is currently working on their forthcoming album, due may 2007.

Great sound!!
author: John HarrisonWhat a great guitarplayer. And he sings well too. I especially enjoy the version of Commotion. I´ll actually buy another one for my wife. ;)
Energic. Breathtaking guitar-work. Blues with spices!
author: Fred H. MoeWhat a guitarist. What a performer. Brilliant record - very guitar oriented. From the superb Jazz ballad, I always want what I can't have via the energic self-biogrphic(!) Natural born man from the woods to the acoustic melodic Crying. Or maybe the rock 'n' roll oriented I told you will be your favorite, too! Most of the songs are self penned. I enjoy playing this record again and again. If you ever get the oportunity to see Amund Maarud live, you're in for a treat. In the meantime, buy the record that also have a live nerve to it! Great voice, great guitar. Could lead the thoughts to Brian Setzer or even Eddie Cochran! Amund is a real Fender-bender. What he can't do with a Stratocaster, isn't worth doing...
