Instrumental electronic music perfect for driving your car, washing your dishes, or dancing when no-one's around.

notes

"A great composer does not imitate; he steals."
- Igor Stravinsky

The above quote, found in the liner notes to A.M.'s debut album, "This Is Me, Dancing", summarizes the artist's approach to sample-based music; it is the art of uniting what are seemingly incompatible styles of music to create something truly new.

The songs on "This Is Me, Dancing" combine live instruments (played by A.M. and several collaborators) with samples from a wide variety of sources to create new and irresistably catchy music guaranteed to leave a smile on your face. Each song evokes a different atmosphere or emotion, while leaving enough space for the listener's own interpretation. Inspired by the many styles of music he samples...from classical to jazz to funk to broadway musicals...A.M. has created a musical collage that can entertain the casual listener while providing enough substance to intrigue those with a keen ear for musical form.

A.M. began as the electronic side project of Andrew Moore, guitarist/vocalist of the now-defunct independent Toronto band Oberlin. A 4th grade teacher with a background in both piano and voice, this album has been in the works for over four years, and is perhaps the most personal of Moore's musical projects.

If you are a fan of Lemon Jelly, Groove Armada, DJ Shadow, Mr. Scruff, or other electronic/hip hop/ambient instrumental artists, A.M. will give you something to think about, and more importantly, something to dance about.

  • You can't listen to this and sit still. Varied, complex, fun!
    author: Sue

Full of surprises, neat electronic music without the repetitive style typical of the genre. Always a fresh, creative use of samples, spoken phrases and loops from an eye popping variety of sources including jazz, funk, rock, even disco.... then the sounds are mashed, bent, combined and recoloured to create new and endlessly interesting effects. I'm hooked on it!!

  • Best of Winter: This is Me, Dancing
author: Chris Lezzaine, Canadian Indie Weekly

Few amateur albums caught my ear this winter--this is one of them. You could say This is Me, Dancing is Saint Germain with more folk, but it wouldn't quite capture the breezy, playful sound that is all its own. The first track Dr. Cohen Gets Even sets the album's commanding sample-bending tone, while Meeting Scene stands out as the most emotionally mature track. The hidden track, with its deconstructive cross-over of notes, finishes what is an authentically ingenious album. This is an upcoming artist to watch. Chris Lezzaine

  • Dub Rock: The Next Generation
    author: Frank Cotton

This is a superb piece of electronically-created art. Trip-hop meets jazz meets dub...every sample fits, every beat is irresistable and hypnotic. The pefect balance of computer manipulation and old-fashioned live performers, (who are all excellent in their own rights, by the way). This CD is multi-purpose too; you can chill to it, dance to it, or get your mack on to it...;) Pick it up. In a sea of cookie-cutter sounding artists, "This Is Me, Dancing" is a breath of fresh air.

  • Ear Candy!
    author: Rebecca

This CD is like a really good gobstopper that lasts forever, but keeps revealing a surprising new layer of musical sweetness with each listen! I love the variety on this disc - A.M. definitley has a style of his own, but it's musically complex & clever and never gets boring.

  • You must listen to this disc!

This is the work of a true musician. It is an amazing mix of sampling, live instruments, and voice that is both funny and beautiful. AM, please make more music!

...and it gets better with every listen. Was browsing cdbaby and found it by accident...glad I did. This is one of those discs where you hear something new every time. Never gets boring. Reminds me of ninja tune stuff, but easier to listen to. Great buy for electronica fans/sample junkies.
