notes
American Dog was formed in 1999 in Columbus, Ohio, Featuring ex-Salty Dog (geffen) bassist Michael Hannon on Vocals and Electric Bass, Steve Theado on Guitars and Vocals and Keith Pickens Drums and Vocals.
The sound is a very coarse high energy hard rock with a blues base which gets comparisons with '70's era Ted Nugent with the power and grit of Motorhead. American Dog is best known in the biker circuit (They've played Sturgis and many Easyriders events) where they've played shows with a wide variety of artists uch as David Allan Coe, Rose Tattoo, Billy Idol, Nazareth and Molly Hatchet.
American Dog have ten European tours under their belts, doing the best in Germany, France and Belgium. They are "rust-belt" heroes in the midwest of the U.S.

Hold on to your beer with both hands!
author: One Angry SwedeThe latest studio offering from the beer drinkers and hell raisers from Ohio. Features the trademark Dog sound....and dare I say, a bit of refinement? This disc features some very strong songs "Working Man", "Faded", "Another Lost Weekend" to name but a few. Vocalist/bassist Michael Hannon's vocals have never sounded better. The production quality is top notch - and the additional instrumentation sprinkled thru-out speaks of a band wanting to grow a bit - withOUT compromising their alcohol-fueled sound. No, they didnt bring in Mutt Lange but this album reminds me a bit of the way AC/DC tweaked their sound with 'Highway To Hell'. Ive read many a review stating that guitarist Steve Theado is the band's 'secret weapon'. Hard to keep a secret when the guy's riffs and incredible tone dominate every song! Holding it all together is the guy behind the drumkit -Keith Pickens. Much like their heroes Motorhead, the vocalist/bassist is the one you notice - but if it wasn't for the guy smashing the hell out of the drums you'd have nothing remarkable. These boys ROCK. For a 3 piece band - their sound is HUGE. Don't take my word for it...give a listen to the samples here and then fork over the $15 -- you will not be disappointed. Great classic style rock
author: FRANKAmerican Dog's Scars-N-Bars is the kind of music you just don't hear anymore. Working Man has become my new personal theme song. And Steve Theado's solo on Lucky 13 makes this Cd worth the price of admission. If you long for good Rock & Roll with solos and kick butt riffs........ BUY SCARS-N-BARS!!!!!
Motorhead, Junkyard, Rose Tattoo ... when the best meets the best !
author: Carlo MazzoliOne of the best rock'n'roll album of the last decade. Pure energy. This guys rock. Buy this record. Do yourself a favour, buy it! Without American Dog you can't win the rock'n'roll war.
Grinding, gorgeous, gargantuan.
author: ValleyMore blues than before, Aerosmith inspired. It's a real uplift to know there are still bands out that aren't just interested in getting out of the house on Friday and Saturday night and dressing up in their ex-wive's 1980's gear. These guys are the gravel and grit of the real road of rock-n-roll.

American Dog - SCARS N' BARS (Outlaw Entertainment) American Dog SCARS N' BARS Outlaw Entertainment To the average person that takes one glance and moves on to the next thing, American Dog is the kind of band where you know what you are going to get before you ever crack the CD case open. As has been the case in the past, American Dog continue their tradition of making good, ol' fashioned shit-kickin' rock n' roll cut from the same mold as Jackyl, Junkyard with a little bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Uriah Heep to keep the rhythm and blues straight. It's bloozy music that should be heard in a bar with a double shot of Jack Daniels in one hand and a Budweiser chaser in the other. That being said, American Dog has shown tremendous growth over the years to the point where now, with the release of SCARS N' BARS, this is not the same bunch of redneck rockers that were once called Hilljack and played fun, but sometimes immature music. No...American Dog has matured with SCARS N' BARS. Well, at least a little bit. While they still have some straight-forward silliness to them, SCARS N' BARS is by far the most diverse, powerful, and best written album of the band's career. More than ever before, American Dog shows the ability to be one of the elite diehards that make music that's irrelevant to the trend-jumpers yet inspiring to those longing for the days when Rock N' Roll was fun instead of just sad and tragic. These songs flat out rock as well as anything that's been released from the old school over the past 10 years – ANYTHING! Songs like “Workin' Man” and “Burnin' Yesterday” are barn burners where you can't help but stomp your feet and bang your head. These songs just smoke, as does the majority of the album. Interestingly though, maturity in songwriting is the hallmark of this album for American Dog. Where past albums found the band just plowing forward in somewhat AC/DC, uni-directional ways, this album shows a great deal of diversity in the songwriting, structure and approach. Songs like “Sunday Buzz” are a prime example. With it's synthesized vocal bridges that act as a prelude to an all-out metal hoedown, you see a new, developed side of this band that hasn't been present before. Other songs like “Little Girl” shine as well. More and more, the key element to this band is not ex-Salty Dog/ex-Dangerous Toys bass player Michael Hannon. That's not to say that Hannon isn't solid on this record, because he is. He'll never be classified as a Jim Gillette/Geoff Tate vocal protege, but his trademark snarling is as solid as ever, and his Lemmy-like attack on bass is as good as ever. Drummer Keith Pickens is solid as ever. He ably keeps the songs together and chugging speedily forward. Without out doubt though, guitarist Steve Theado is the reason that American Dog has become more than just another bar band opening for every Motorhead and Molly Hatchet type band that rolls through Columbus, Ohio. Simply put, Theado has the biggest, rawest yet surprisingly skilled riffs that are being created today. Whether it's the simplistic chug of songs like “Faded”, the killer blues metal crunch of songs like “Lucky 13”, the traditional rawkus riffs of “Another Lost Weekend” or the balls out intensity on songs like “Got You By A Chain”, Theado delivers. PITRIFF RATING – 9/10 – For what it is, this is as close to a 10/10 as I ever give. True rawk and roll that keeps the spirit of it's forefathers while showing tremendous growth as a band, SCARS N' BARS is one brilliant record. Say a word of thanks to God that there are still bands like American Dog out there that refuse to sell out to sell records. SCARS N' BARS remind me just why the old-school was so much better than anything modern metal's assembly line continues to churn out.
