notes
Amélie's first album's release took place in Lyon, France in july in the Antique Roman Amphitheatre of Fourvière in front of a crowd of 2500 fans. This was a great moment after a very busy year where Amélie toured over France and made a big hit at Printemps de Bourges (most famous french festival) and at the Alors Chante Festival in Montauban where they won the 2 prizes of the jury !
Amélie started in 2001 in bars and cafés as a solo piano singer. She put up a band together with funny-haired Heiko (piano, clarinet, tuba), Michel (accordion) and Laurent (bass). They soon were very popular in their region, then over France and Swizerland. The show was created in january with the magical piano (which opens itself !), funny special effects and the astonishing contact that Amélie creates with her audience.
After the release of the new album, they went on touring over France, Swizerland, Belgium and Canada from september 2004 to august 2006, nearly 200 concerts and 100 000 spectators. The show was shot in december 2005 for a DVD to be released in may 2006. In July 2006, Amélie said good bye to her hometown audience in the Roman Theatre of Vienne, this time in front of a crowd of 8000 ! She'll be back by the end of 2007 with a new album and show. the show was put on a DVD "le tour de la question" (i.e "around the question"), available on Filmbaby : www.filmbaby.com/films/1454
Amélie conveys in her own song that great traditionnal spirit of popular songs, simple, funny and romantic. There's nothing intellectual about the project, just a sort of travelling troup which carries along happiness and humour.

Beautiful
author: christopher desimineI would like to say first of all that I am very impressed with CDBaby’s products and service. We are fortunate to be able to purchase these hard to find titles at such reasonable prices. Yet if I had paid upwards of a hundred dollars each for these Amelie-Les-Crayons records it would have been worth every dime. “Et Pourquoi Les Crayons?” (2004) and “La Porte Plume” (2007) offer chansons recorded with crystal clarity. Most of the numbers are quiet affairs with light accompaniment, although there are a few with a circus feel. There are too many beautiful moments among the language and musicianship to outline but if I were to pick a favorite tonight I would offer “Le Citronnier”. I believe the song is about the cycle of life and the wish to see a lost loved one again. And the flute just takes my breath away.
Magnifique!
author: Scott S.It sure seems that Amelie, Laurent, Heiko, and Michel had as much fun singing the songs as I have listening to them. The more "excited" songs bring a smile to my face every time I hear them and some of them and the more quiet are just so nice to listen to. Don't forget la piste cachee. I think it has the answer to THE question. I thought my French was good, but I can't understand what Amelie says so I'm not sure.
Fantastic CD!
author: TracyI heard one of her songs on Putumayo Paris and was so intrigued by her voice and the music I had to get her entire album. Exquisite! I listen to this cd everyday. I hope she comes to the States one day so I can hear her live.
