notes
After graduating high school in 1998, Mike Amabile attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. There he received his Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Advertising. It was also there that he became aware of his love for music. Amabile has been a poet since he was 13 years old. He has written hundreds of poems, songs, and short stories. His love for writing is what brought him into music. When Amabile wrote his first song, he said he could hear the music that would accompany it and that was when he knew he was a songwriter. His music revolves around everyday situations that people can relate to. He often writes about how he feels at the time, and puts complex emotions into simple words. It's the kind of music that will make you sit back and say, "wow, I know exactly how that feels." With his incorporation of powerful guitar and harmonica melodies, he delivers a type of music of his very own. This style of original music is a collaboration of his interests, which include Southern Rock, Blues, Country and Classic Rock.
Amabile recorded his first acoustic demo at a small recording studio in Conroe in 2003. Soon after, he gave it to a local DJ at 103.7 KSTAR Country (Houston/Conroe). She favored a song called "The Texas Women Blues" and aired it several times. Her listeners responded with good feedback and requests. Amabile went on to form his band called "Run Over Twice." The band recorded their demo CD in 2004 and went on the road to play at various Texas venues. Amabile did a requested phone interview with Rockdale radio station KRXT 98.5 and the station played his popular song "Chasing the Sunset." Amabile still plays in the band, but likes to focus on acoustic gigs as well. He feels that solo gigs allow him to express himself differently and allow a more intimate interaction with the crowd. With the release of "Places I Can't Go" in 2005, Amabile is moving forward to new heights in his career.
Amabile has performed acoustically across the Southeastern part of Texas. During college he played a weekly gigs on Tuesdays at TW's Steakhouse on the square, and on Wednesdays at Humphrey's across the street from the college. In the Spring of 2004, he and his friend Kyle Redd, performed at The Love Shack in Houston opening for the popular alternative band Marcy Playground. Amabile has also performed at the Walker County Fair, the Seabrook Music Festival, FitzPatrick's in Galveston and many others. He plans to continue to write, play and sing no matter what occurs. It is obvious that this Texas singer/songwriter is one that won't be going away any time soon.
