New Roots Dub from UK- Deep Heavy Dub. (ROIR)

notes

Alpha and Omega are perhaps the leading producers in the UK of the new dub sound system movement inspired by Jah Shaka, Mad Professor, Zion Train, and Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound.

"Pure listening pleasure for lovers of thick, languid intense Dub." - The Beat

"Under the guise of Alpha & Omega, Christine Woodbridge and John Sprosen have been making some of the most spiritually-charged roots reggae of the contemporary heavyweight UK dub persuasion, sing their formation in Plymouth nearly a decade ago." - New Musical Express

From AMG:
"Alpha and Omega's Sound System Dub is their first official U.S. release, even though they've had several titles available as imports. Purveyors of the dub/reggae style, the duo effortlessly composes meditative tunes that both relax and comfort the listener. This is especially evident on Sound System Dub, with all of the tracks being remixed versions of songs selected from their seven prior releases. Highlights include the previously unreleased "Africa/Ethiopa," as well as the liquid sounding-dubs "Who Is the Ruler" (which includes vocals from Woodbridge), the repetitive bass of "Sharu Att Our Aunt," the ethereal "Dub Flute," and the album's opener, "Rastafari." Sound System Dub serves as the perfect introduction to new fans since this is a 'best of" of sorts, and because these tracks are all worthwhile newly-remixed versions, this album also does a good job of appealing to longtime fans. For fans of expertly-crafted, inventive reggae, Alpha and Omega's Sound System Dub is highly recommended." - Greg Prato

  • Excellent new-roots dub.
    author: Rusty

Alpha & Omega stay remarkably true to the roots of dub while still exuding chill sense of downtempo. If Massive Attack had stayed with Mad Professor and really studied Lee Perry, they might have approached something akin to the greatness of these dubs. Sometimes the electronic drums are a bit annoying, but the vibe and ultra deep bass overtake all obstacles. Absolutely essential modern dub.

  • Niceness, pure rootical vibes, Jah works, Rastafari.
