'80s new wave electroclash - Berlin meets early Depeche Mode

notes

UK duo. Electroclash / early '80s synthpop. If you love Berlin, Brokski Beat or Depeche Mode, you'll love this album. Very retro. Sounds very similar to the newer electroclash... ladytron, felix with an '80s female filtered vocal.

Catchy synth and vocal melodies.

  • deceptively simple melodic elctro-pop at it's very best.

this cd not only has 14 great tracks, it has classic tracks, 'i am sushi','girl with the x-ray eyes', 'dream car' the vicious 'baby's got a gun'and a wonderful dance version of pattie smiths 'because the night'.....the overall sound of the album is simplistic, vocals are deadpan, if you like your electro-pop 80's style but modern and cool, this is for you......it makes no pretentions to be anything but simple pop music and in doing so it becomes quite a relevant piece of pop art, which may well unfortunately become a lost masterpiece.

  • They Know Who You Are And What You're Here For

On their website, The Alphabet Girls state that they want to create "an authentic 80's sound, with a twist." They have done this and much more on their album Beatnik Europa. While this album shares some similarities with other eighties-influenced, electroclash bands, it stands on its own for pure playfulness and smart lyrics that really stick in your head. The synthesizers sound retro without sounding dated, and the British deadpan vocals are to die for. I can't remember being this addicted to Felix, Miss Kittin, Client, or Fischerspooner, all of whom try very hard to be bleak and esoteric. The Alphabet Girls are neither, and this album should remind everyone that electronic music need not be shrouded in mystery in order to be great. The Alphabet Girls say what they mean, mean what they say, and they do it all with some killer beeps, blasts, and blips. Great stuff, and great to hit the dance floor with in those black patent leather boots you just bought.
