Songs for Sibusiso

A CD of songs that adults will enjoy and children will love! This disc includes a 20 page "storybook"" with lyrics and colorful drawings.

"Songs for Sibusiso" features the music of The Sinikithemba Choir, a South African choral group in the style of Ladysmith BLack Mambazo (who were featured on Paul Simon's "Graceland" album). It includes guest appearances by members of local Boston bands Babaloo!, Lovewhip, The Cha Cha Cha All-Stars and, of course, Pressure Cooker. The 14-song disc combines traditional and popular kids' favorites with original compositions all performed with an African flavor. Hear "Baa Baa Black Sheep" in an Afro-Cuban style, listen to and dance along with a New Orleans version of "The Hokey Pokey", and never, ever again worry about reminding your children to "Wash Your Hands" when it's time to eat, as they will be singing the catchy South African melody on the opening track!

All the musicians donated their time and efforts to raise money and awareness to help communities affected by HIV/AIDS in Durban and surrounding areas. Sibusiso ('blessings' in Zulu) provides resources for people affected by HIV/AIDS. All proceeds from Songs for Sibusiso will benefit a Durban, South African orphanage for children who have lost parents to HIV/AIDS. For more information on Sibusiso, go to www.sibusisopartners.org. Or, contact: Sibusiso, Inc., 10 Whitney Street, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.

Even though I don't have kids, this is one of my favorite CD's; Sweet Mother puts a smile on my face and Rain on the Roof has a beautiful melody and moving message. I have too many favorites to continue listing!

  • Great songs, harmonies, and beats.

Our whole family loves it. The kids took immediate interest in the songs, both familiar and not. And best of all, while enjoying this they are exposed to the outstanding harmonies and different rhythms ... you just don't get that on the schoolbus!

  • I loved this CD. Made with alot of love and joy.

A real treat! Entertaining for kids and adults. Many diffrent styles and voices. I played this CD at a residential program for at-risk youth and the boys particularly enjoyed WASH YOUR HANDS and HOKEY POKEY. My favorite is WOLF, and my wife likes dancing to the Latin rhytms.

It's great to have a CD for kids that adults will enjoy too. These are really fun songs, especially the ones with a calypso beat. "Big Trouble" is a favorite with our family.

World music for kids? Hallelujah. Now your kids can explore and encounter new parts of the world through fun and upbeat songs. From Jamaican ska and reggae to Afro-Cuban and Zulu choral songs, Aloysius and friends know how to include kids in an international musical dialogue. Featuring the music of The Sinikithemba Choir, a South African group in the style of Ladysmith Black Mambazo who shined on Paul Simon's "Graceland" album, this collection of songs expands kid's ears and minds with interactive and engaging songs. An excellent pick for any family.
