notes
Following the critically acclaimed album Echo Other, All India Radio release their long awaited fifth studio album ‘Fall.’ The new album represents the next step in the band’s evolution with the addition of singer/co-writer Leona Prue to the lineup. Drawing on the lush atmospheric qualities of previous albums, Leona’s entrancing voice gives the music a new focus, creating a warm and expansive landscape of music, melody and voice with lyrics that equally charm and baffle.
Guests include Graham Lee (from legendary Aussie band The Triffids and classic KLF albums Chill Out and The White Room) who plays some stunningly atmospheric pedal steel guitar and Australian experimental cellist Emily Williams.
With barely perceptible shades of triphop sound experimentation, moody folk, and brightly shining feminine atmosphere, Fall can easily be classified as one of 2008's most beautiful albums. - properlychilled.com
Here’s one to seek out. All India Radio are a Mebourne outfit that have been around for ages quietly making some of the most interesting and assured music in this city...The End Or Near could be Melbourne’s Unfinished Sympathy or Sour Times, it’s that good - Melbourne Magazine
All India Radio has taken dream-pop to the next level with some mind-numbingly gorgeous songs that use pianos, strings, and organs to their fullest potential and sit somewhere between the realms of Portishead and Boards of Canada. This is also the band's first album with its new singer Leona Prue, whose voice pulls the listener into a trance-like state from almost the first note she utters. - xlr8.com
Leona singing with such a lush background is a thing of beauty - comfortcomes.com
In a word - beautiful. Thats the adjective for the latest AIR release. Notably, the female vocals blend effortlessly the now well-established trademark sublime sound of the ensemble. You'll feel it, you'll believe it - Life really is easy. Neat-o. - Getamungstit
It reminds us of when Portishead used to not suck, Zero 7 and maybe even a little bit like M83 too - Sensory Overload
Fall is the fifth album from the Melbourne four-piece All India Radio. It's a engaging soundscape of superbly produced tracks with enchanting vocals by new band-member Leona Prue (also co-writer). It is clear a lot of care has gone into this album - it is crafted to perfection. - The Dwarf
a memorable downtempo encounter, and Leona Prue’s vocals are truly stunning. ***½ - Rave Magazine
This fifth album Fall features all of the traits listeners have come to expect from All India Radio so far, with their trademark dreamy trailing guitars and lush instrumental textures firmly in place – the real edge here being the recent addition of Leona Prue on vocals. Whilst providing Fall with far more of a solid grounding than its occasionally meandering predecessor, Prue’s at times spine-chilling vocals manage to take the poignancy of the gorgeous backings to a far more intense level. Fans of the likes of Zero 7 and Velure will be thrilled. - 8/10 by evilchris, threedworld
the more I listened, the more I was compelled. Martin Kennedy has teamed up with with singer/songwriter Leona Prue and a handful of talented musicians to craft this album, and it’s All India Radio’s best work yet. Here’s to many more musical collaborations between Martin and Leona. - Dave’s Lounge Podcast
If (the older) Portishead and Air ever made a record together, it would sound something like this... Undeniably beautiful work! - WPRK 91.5 FM (Filtered Sunshine Radio)
Fall is a chilled-out, inviting, and indulgent experience with leading single Persist introducing loose grooves and subtle middle-eastern vocal and string arrangement which inspire multiple listens. But by far, the most rewarding and standout track for the listener is The End Or Near, a truly beautiful experience with intricate beats and ambient soundscapes that transport you back to memories of lost love. Further listening through Fall exposes a strong attachment to the Cocteau Twins and the vocal stylings of Katie Noonan which have melancholic tendencies throughout. - rtrfm.com.au
