this CD was amazing...just as I expected. try built like that too!

  • a matured voice for change and revelation
    author: moya

What more could you ask for? It's Alix Olson with a deeper sense of meaning and an almost sorrow in her voice that shows how committed she is to her work. I really like the musical accompaniment in this cd. While some songs made me stand up and shout, others made me want to cry. This is her best work yet.

  • wow wow wow

It's amazing!!!!!! a friend of mine told me i had to listen to it, and i haven't stopped listening since............

  • A fiery explosion!
    author: Gina

When I got this cd I literally listened to it nonstop for a week. "8X10" and "Kindness and Rage" reminded me of my ex. Due to these songs we've begun to forgive each other. So, thank you Alix for your amazing music/poetry. Thank you for building a bridge for all of us humans out here that crave our own truth. This album will make you laugh, cry, and scream "Right on!" at several points! Buy it!

  • absolutely f*in AMAZING!! buy it and buy it now, hell buy two.
    author: deanna

this album grabs you by your guts, twists and turns you until you want to cry and then immediately hug alix, partially b/c she's so cute but primarily for giving such an eloquent, ingenious voice to all those inner thoughts and the sometimes quiet rage.

  • this womyn, this album is pure spunk!
    author: kato

After listening to Alix's first album non-stop for a week, I knew i had to buy Independence Day. I was not disapointed. Its full of spunk and passion and fire. I love it!

  • Excellent!
    author: Lisa

While I'm still partial to Alix's first release, this is great, especially the title track and the track. I saw Alix at Pride and she was great. Thanks for giving voice to truths that most people are afraid to say.

  • Fiery, feminist, fantastic!
    author: ~shannon

Like Built Like That, Independence Meal is pure verbal fire. Alix takes her words shaken AND stirred. There is nothing commonplace about her art, nothing taken for granted, no idea that hasn't been magnified, inverted and exploded into new space. She truly is a dynamic feminist voice. Buy this CD, support independent artists!

  • cut my legs off & call me shorty
    author: Sunny

If this CD is good enough to listen to for a six hour round trip... then, yeah, it's good enough for you to give it a shot. C'mon, it's not that expensive. If you don't love it, then cut my legs off and call me shorty.

I heard one of these tracks on KUNM, public radio Albuquerque New Mexico. What I heard was overwhelmingly visceral and attractive. I'd ordered this CD within the hour and am thoroubhly delighted. Good Work Alix! Wonderful Words!

  • FABULOUS!!
    author: Carrie

This CD is really really well done. My favorite track is 8 X 10, but they're all really awesome. I also love Womyn Before.

  • Taking the power back!
    author: Kristie

Alix O. is as amazing as ever with her sophomore cd. The world should adopt Wholly Human as it's theme song and go out and change some shit for the better! Fun for feminists of all colors, shapes, sexualities, and sizes!!! Support Indie Music!

  • The artist at her best
    author: Brave N' Crazy

The cd is a great follow-up to her debut album. The raw energy and fiery passion that Alix puts into her art saturates each track on "Independence Meal". A must-have!

  • Alix Kicks ASS
    author: Stacey

I must say that the song Wholly Human may be one of the most facinating songs, work, stream of conciousness I have EVER heard. That song makes me so happy.

  • wow.
    author: keri

This CD is pure energy, emotion and power-just like Alix. This is material you live and feel, not just listen to. Alix has her own special way of tearing her heart from her chest and showing us each artery. OK, that was graphic, but you know what I mean! This CD will blow you away...so buy it..and soak up the wonderful goodness.

  • raw, beautiful, sexy SISTAH!
    author: Valley Blossom

I got this CD following my first encounter of ALIX live. After the show I purchased BUILT LIKE THAT....Played that none stop for a few days and had to get INDEPENDENCE MEAL. I couldnt say that I enjoy one more than the other... This album is much more melodic that Alix's debut album. She is strong. Her delivery punches.... Inspiring messages. Pamela means also kicks major ass on her axe.... excellent cd! yum!

  • amazing
    author: mara

just wanna say that this cd makes my life better. thank you!

  • listen to it!
    author: ny fan

this is one of those cd's that you can listen to without ever using the skip button--every track gets right to you, and they flow into each other. it's much more melodic than built like that, while retaining the political statements and spunk which is what we love about alix.

  • Alix rocks my world!
    author: rainbowDYKE

Wonderful followup to "built like that". Her works on this album are more musical and really seep into the soul. What an amazing woman.

  • KICK ASS CD! alix delivers another great, inspiring preformance.
    author: Rebecca

i saw alix last week and the cd is VERY representative of her in person. the recording and delivery of her poetry is well done and i'd recommend it to anyone new to, or familiar with, spoken word. you want to be inspired into action? buy this cd and 'built like that', her first cd. thanks cdbaby!

  • Stronger, deeper, more passionate - Great!
    author: UK Fan

This second CD gets across the raw energy and passion that Alix delivers in her live performances far more than 'built like that'. The musical collaboration with Pamela Means, Lydell Montgomery et al works brilliantly. It's a cd full of tracks that get you right in the guts. Whether tender or firey, they are more complex and aware than her earlier stuff. A truly Subtle Sister - Love it!

  • more musical than past cd... different and great!
author: Association for Lafayette Women Co-President

Love it! The style is a bit more melodic and musical than built like that... it was an unexpected surprise at first- thinking i was going to hear something with more slam feel... it's different, but still totally wonderful!!!

  • Amazing, inspiring folk poetry!
    author: Lisa

One of my favorite CDs already. Alix has taken her spunky, inspirational poetry and put it against an amazing musical background. Not as in-your-face as Built Like That, but still amazing. I love it.
