Mystical and moody.
Groundbreaking and soul-shaking.
Or more to the point, brilliant.
That's how Bob Leone of the Songwriters Hall of Fame has described Alice Marie's piano-based rock. Indie-Music.com says she's a star whose songs come from someplace way beyond music. And Virt Records touted her as one of its Undiscovered Gems.
With a smoldering voice, poetic lyrics that penetrate the soul, and haunting, sometimes Celtic melodies amid lush, dramatic soundscapes, the New York-based singer-songwriter won't remain undiscovered for long.
Her songs have aired on Sirius Satellite Radio, Plum TV, plus numerous podcasts and Internet radio stations, and she has appeared at The Bitter End, Arlene's Grocery, Borders Books, The Living Room, 17, Maxwell's in Hoboken, and Balboa Park in San Diego.
"I Was Seven," and "More," two tracks from Angels Near, the full-length follow-up to Equilibrium, are helping raising money for the Tori Amos-endorsed organization RAINN on a CD called Mindful Lullabies. "Easy Streets" appears on Mamapalooza Vol. 2.

A rare and awesome talent!!!
author: Chase von, The Last PantherI don't know if my last review took, so I will make this one brief. Check out Alice Marie, and one of my favorite songs Lip Stick Diaries! I generally like R and B but I will listen to anything if it is good. And Alice Marie is the kind of artist that transcends musical boundaries. I forsee her soon accepting the highest honors music can bestow. She is that rare talent that once experienced is forever remembered. Soon to be a household name and deservingly so!!! Chase von tlp The Last Panther Author of Pink, Blue and Green and the soon to be released Loud Statements, Silent Whispers, Telling Truths

author: CarltonOne of the best investments ive made this year. "Lipstick Diaries" is still my favorite track on the cd, its what made me buy the cd in the first place. To any one who reads this review........buy this cd. you'll be doing yourself a huge favor. Alice has one of the best voices in the business today and its just a matter of time before the rest of the world knows it.

Alice's Hope Opera Begins
author: Joe CahillAlice Marie's "Equilibrium" is a melodic, passionate, edgy and an uplifting CD. Like many of the reviewers here, I've been listening to Alice's songs for days. The combination of her sweet, belty and sassy vocals with the driving Rock sound and her pristine sparkling piano work make for an inescapable throughly enjoyable listening experience. Alice Marie's music is about healing, and the healing power of music. "Madeleine", a song about a warrior-pricess type woman who can help heal a broken soul, has a New Age sound, and an uplifting positive, cathartic quality. "Lipstick Diaries" has a wistful, playful, strong quality. Alice sings with the voice of "a woman set free". "Seasoned" is soothing like a lullaby, and it has the sound of Oriental windchimes. The lyrics deal with unconditional love and commitment. Both piano and vocal harmonies enhance the Oriental sound with eastern sounding cadences. "The Seed" is the story of a woman's journey to a fuller selfhood. it's slow verses and fast driving choruses make for a great contrast and keep the listener grooving. To sum it up, Alice Marie has given us a rich variety of music all neatly wrapped inside one EP CD.
great cd
author: kyle kneebonethis cd is wonderful because it really shows emotion and makes you think. I've listened to it for the past 3 days and can't get enough of it. you'll love it too.
Alice Marie is great!
author: CharlieIt was for Alice Marie's "Madeleine" that I first tried shopping at cdbaby.com. This song almost break my heart when I first heard it. We cannot get it here in Germany and I am so happy that I can now listen to it whenever I need to. And I swear - it is a need! The other songs are also catchy, I like "Lipstick Diary" and "So Long" very much. But there is nothing like "Madeleine". Thank you, Alice Marie.

A great CD for reflecting on melancholy times

She is Lyrical cheesecake! I want more, but I feel guilty! From the crumbling graham cracker crust of the world that inspires her songs to the smooth cream cheese of her voice and the rich fruit topping of some mad piano skilz, this is one sweet dessert that you'll want to taste again. Too metaphorical? then BUY THIS ALBUM! 'nuff said.
breathtaking...and breathgiving
author: owen hemi brightLyrically honest and musically adventurous, Alice Marie's words are oddly evocative and powerfully transformative. Musical sunshine, if you will. This is my rainy-day music. It should be yours.
Great debut! Strong voice and songwriting skill!
author: Karen LangefeldSo glad I bought this album. Great piano playing. Alice possesses a wonderful, rich voice. Her songs are wonderful, especially Lipstick Diaries, So Long, and Seasoned. Had this cd in my car for weeks! I look forward to her next cd.
Food for the soul...
author: J. L. Olaguibel...is what you'll find within this cd. There aren't many artists out there that can create such excellent music covering such a wide range of emotions. This cd touches on laughter and tears, courage and hope, love and loss. It's as if the artist is tracking the growth of our spirits as we progress through life with her songs. I expect this cd is only the beginning of what the world will see of Alice Marie.
Equilibrium is a must have. A gift from a truly gifted artist. Can’t wait for th
author: Kristin, Madrid, SpainMusic has always been an important influence in my life. To me, music is one of the most powerful forces that exists, a song having the ability to alter a mood with just its opening strands. Historically, I have found I reach for different artists to instill certain feelings. But what I find these days is that I am reaching over and over for Equilibrium. Alice Marie is a gifted artist whose music speaks on many levels and, just when I think I know all the subtleties one of her songs can offer, magic occurs and I hear something completely new. Though the music may be said to reflect the influences of Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and even Alanis Morrisette, Alice Marie has a voice that is truly her own. May she never lose it!
a must have for your collection
author: robyneileeneThis is music that speaks to you and tells you a story as if it were your own. Equilibrium lets me transition from a more hectic world to a more peaceful place. Love the lyrics-soulful, celtic-like, and truly captivating.
A must buy!
author: se-an Alice Marie fanEquilibrium (a well-balanced state of being), is exactly the feeling produced within--when listening to this CD. From the reflective "Lipstick Diaries," until the very end, this CD is filled with modern-day anthems of strength, hope, and courage. A must buy!
lush... evocative... haunting...
author: christina manosOnce isn't enough; you'll want to hit "play" and "repeat" for this CD. Evocative lyrics captured in lush lyrical landscapes pull you in and hold on to you ...Equilibrium will haunt you. And you'll like it.
Fresh new tunes spun from beautiful ideas.
author: B.L. OchmanAlice Marie's music is based on beautiful ideas and presented in a fresh and tuneful new way. It's distinctively her own sound, although she is compared to Tori Amos. Alice Marie's sound is newer, brighter and more free.
breathtaking
author: dizzyweaselThis is one of the best albums I've ever purchased. The music has an elusive quality - it's reminiscent of several artists, but at the same time it's wholly unique. The songs are plaintive, poignant and utterly memorable. If only the album was longer...then it would be perfect.
passionate rock-driven ballads that captivate...
author: Gary TurnerAlice Marie's meandering piano melodies and haunting lyrics are captivating. You can tell Alice has worked on her craft with dedication and love... This is an intriguing offering from what is sure to become a sought after talent.
I want to cradle this baby...
author: mmm...a gorgeous CD... Alice Marie's voice is sublime... All of her soulful songs have the kind of explosive rhythm that lead you -- unexpectedly but satisfyingly -- one way and then another... Ebbing and flowing, I find myself in love with Alice Marie's musical moods. All of her songs are sweet surprises... refreshing. I want more...
Poetry set to music...
author: Zoe BlotnickIn a bout of insomnia, I discovered Alice Marie... Her CD is a mix of ethereal melodies, soulful vocals, passion-driven rock interludes, and what sound like lullabies for the heartbroken and homesick... Her intoxicating piano melodies are whimsical... delicate... strong... On every song, there are chords of perseverance... and honest strength. This is poetry set to music. Traveling through her website, you get a better taste of this enchanting singer/songwriter... A pleasure to "meet".... ZB
Want to catch a rising star?
author: Dee LaneWant to catch a rising star? Then listen to Alice Marie's newly released CD. I have not listened to another CD since I got Equilibrium! I play it every chance I get and sing it to myself when I'm not near a CD player. The vocals are crystal clear and the lyrics speak to my heart. The music is haunting on some tracks and the guitar licks and drums ROCK on others. This is definitely a superb first release from a very talented singer/songwriter. So, if you want to catch a rising star, buy this CD... oh and um TRY not to wear it out.
