notes
Alexis Baro was born and raised in the mecca of Latin music, Havana, Cuba. Growing up in a musical family, he began playing the trumpet at a very early age, inspired by his mother and aunt who played with the national ballet and symphonic orchestras of Cuba. Alexis was classically trained and also received a teaching certification from the Amadeo Roldan music institute in Havana. Since relocating permanently to Toronto in January of 2001, Alexis has been branching out and exploring other musical influences such as jazz, R and B, funk and calypso through his work with artists such as Evaristo Machado, Son Ache, David Rudder, Kollage, Cassava, Ruben Vazquez, Donnie Osmond and The Clash. Baro has toured extensively throughout Cuba, Canada, and Europe, performing in various festivals and events. In 2004, Alexis was a co-winner of the National Jazz Award for best acoustic group. and has just completed recording of his first full-length CD entitled "Havana Banana".

author: Karl LangtonAlexis Baro is definately the hot new trumpet sound in Canada. Havana Banana is an excellent album - a 'must have' for anyone who loves jazz/funk trumpet. Alexis' rendition of Stolen Moments is especially fantastic!! Can't wait for the next recording.
