notes
Blues music goes in and out of style but Alberta Adams has been ubiquitious with the blues in Detroit for over 50 years. She enjoys saying that she was born with the blues. She has certainly lived it. Born in Indianapolis in the late '20s, Adams moved to Detroit at a tender age and got her start in the music biz in the 1940s in Detroit's Paradise Valley where the main drag was called Hastings Street. Originally a dancer, she became a singer when the regular vocalist failed to show up. The rest is history. She has toured extensively with Louis Jordan, Eddie 'Cleanhead' Vinson, T-Bone Walker, James Moody and Duke Ellington and recorded extensively particularly in the jump type blues style that is her repertoire today.
