i am alacartoona

in the spring of 2002, i was alone, living on the streets and supporting myself through unsavory means. often barely remembering who i was--and not caring when i did--i stumbled from barroom to bedroom to back alley, intent on self-destruction.

early one morning, convinced my death was near, i raised my head from the bundle of rags on which it had fallen, hoping to see the sun rise one last time. instead, my eyes beheld a beautiful vision of a man. he smiled at me with love and compassion and from between his red, red lips he said to me, "alacartoona, we need you."

that man was providence forge. he took me to his home, bathed me, fed me, nursed me back to health and loved me with passionate devotion until i felt a flutter of my former self sneak through my veins.

through him, i met the inspiringly ambitious--and brutally lovely-- ruby falls, the strong and silent bachelor calwood and my dear, sweet archibald drexel. it was their unconditional love, their selfless support and, yes, their intimate attentions which gave me the strength to rediscover myself and reclaim my rightful crown.

you have known me before. i was the grande damme of the belle epoque and your great-grandfathers danced with me in the shadow of the kaiser. i was the queen of berlin, the empress of free france and your grandmothers fought to share my bed while the wehrmacht thundered through the streets below. and now, as the darkness rises once more, i have returned. this time, i choose you.

i am beautiful
i am alacartoona

alacartoona is a modern cabaret act inspired by the european cabaret movement that arose in berlin and paris at the turn of the last century. comprised of accordion, bass, drums and guitar, this unusual quartet brings to life songs of love gone wrong, of cafe life and revolving lovers, of brief joy and extended tragedy. raunchy, bawdy numbers, lusty sing-alongs and tearful ballads comprise the alacartoona songbook. all of the songs are original and are evocative of the style and mood of this fascinating era yet are infused with the energy of our modern life.

    Very Nice!

I loved it!! It's a differant form of music than I am used to but I am now a big fan of caberat music. I will be ordering their other CD shortly and, if it's anything like the first, be burning up my CD player!!

  • You don't passively listen to this CD; you experience Alacartoona!
    author: Tim

I saw Alacartoona live, and fell in love with this group, and just had to get this CD. This collection takes you back to the boisterous days of speakeasies and bawdy entertainment. You won't be able to get these songs out of your head! The songs range from rowdy and risque to sexy and romantic. Awesome CD! What are you waiting for? You must experience Alacartoona for yourself.

  • Sex, Love and Cabaret
    author: Mary Capehart

Alacartoona's CD is full of raw sexy fun that pulls you in then releases your senses to all the energy, passion, love, and heartbreak that life has to offer. Lick your lips luscious.

  • alacartoona is love!!!!!
    author: Mike McEchron

I can't say enough good things about alacartoona. She is unique, original, sultry, sexy, and extemely talented. "Songs From The Show" comes close to experiencing alacartoona live, but you realy must see her live to get the full effect of her intoxicating spell. You'll want to "Fluff & Tickle" her all night!

  • quite a debut
author: Bryan Redmond, of the Grand Marquis

In a world of musical blandness, alacartoona shines through with their debut disc like a ruby in the spotlight. Theatrical, melodramatic, brooding and evocative. A fine recorded representation of their live show; the next best thing to seeing them in person, because your imagination will fill in the imagery. Don't miss this one!

  • Out of the shadow, comes light!
    author: Tom Moriarty

With the long awaited release of her debut CD, ALACARTOONA has generously consented to step out of her dark, smokey shroud of mystery, and into her perfectly appropriate ruby-red spotlight. If you haven't yet had the guilty pleasure of spending an evening with ALACARTOONA, then you simply MUST have this CD! "Black and Blue Heart" will make you feel as though you've stepped into an underground cafe in Munich, circa 1936, while "Every Saint Needs A Sinner" is worth the purchase price of the CD alone. If you'd like a short, sharp slap from the iron fist of life in a velvet glove, give her entire CD a good listen. She'll wake you up to what real Love is all about!

  • a perfectly blended cocktail

  • Very, very entertaining...
    author: Jason Imlay

You will not hear music like this anywhere else! These songs are fun, sexy, and very cool -- well worth it at twice this price to hear music that is both this original and this good.

Alacartoona's debut CD is simply fab! When listening to it you really do feel like you are in an old bombed out bar in Austria listening to a saucy lass and her gang of ruffians! Track #7 "Seems for Days" is a masterpiece! Ruby Falls' voice on this track is akin to angels soaring through the sky! This song could be a international hit! The accordian and drum play are second to none! I can't wait until the next album! VIVA LA ALACARTOONA!

  • Songs with the breathless, debauched abandon of lovers in a world gone insane.
    author: Rocco

This wonderful CD captures and transports you to that night (you know you remember it) when all rules and inhibitions dissolved in a whirl of sensation. All the naughtiness, exhibitionism and oompah of the pre-WWII Berlin and Paris nightlife is back again, in songs drenched with the freedom of hopelessness and the hopefulness of anomie and angst. Drink to it, dance to it, be sure to lust and love to it--this is the CD you must play when nothing matters but pleasure, and the future belongs only to the night ahead.

  • Hypnotic and captivating. Ala and Ruby will love you!
    author: TT

If you haven't seen Alacartoona yet, you are missing out! She will welcome you and tease you while leaving lusting for more. And if you can't see her in person, buying her CD will get a respite from life and you shall love again! Check out the website...Ruby is a one of a kind!

Alacartoona is a blast, sexy, naughty and very enticing! They give you the training wells to bound fourth into Alacartoona's world of debauchery. Fabulous musicanship, songwritting skills and vocals.

  • Songs from the Show if finally here!
    author: Devoted Ala Lover

If you're lucky enough to live in the greater Kansas City area you've probably seen Alacartoona play live before - a tantalizing experience to say the least. They've finally released a CD allowing those not so close to home to hear the lyrical and musical genuis of Alacartoona. Ruby, Providence, Archibald and Bachelor put their love for love, lost-loves, Epicurean excess and gender-bending ubersexuality into a most refreshing and original debut album - beautiful, sorrowful, arresting and fun as hell.

  • Don't miss
    author: Lola

Songs from the Show is funny and tragic and exhilarating and desperate--and very much worth your time. Check it out.

  • author: David Sharek

Finally, two years after their stage debut, Alacartoona has finally released their CD. The wait was worth it. All it will take is one listen to the seductive charms of vocalist Ruby Falls and the understated, yet stylish accordion of Archibald Drexel and you will be hooked. Welcome to the show!

  • FUN, ORIGINAL, DIVERSE, LYRICALLY INCREDIBLE
    author: Patrick Faulstich

Imagine, if you can, a band who’s songs and entertainment value can turn your worst day completely around for you. Then try and imagine that somewhere there’s a band who’s only goal is to make you feel loved. Now, imagine one more time that this special group of people have prepared a show for you so full of playfulness and joy that you can’t get it out of your mind. A show, in which even the sad songs make you feel special. Well, thank goodness we don’t have to imagine this group!! They exist! They are Alacartoona! They are giving up to you incredible songs of Passion and Love. Of Lust and Anguish. Of Sadness and Joy! Every song stays with you even days after having heard it. You find yourself singing along with them, and then one day you realize that you’re the happiest you’ve been in weeks! WOW! What a Gift! Thanks!!!

  • The CD is almost like being there
    author: Bill Pryor

If you haven't seen alacartoona, you should stop whatever you're doing right now, book a flight to Kansas City and catch their next act. If you can't do that, buy the CD--it's the next best thing to being there. Sexy, humorous, sad, satirical, happy, delerious--I love it, and I'm going to have to buy another one because my daughter took my copy to Chicago so she can pretend that she, not I, discovered alacartoona.

  • unique and beautiful artsistry
