The correct pronunciation is “ahhsh” and äj is actually the combination of the first initials of the duo: Andrea and James Rohlehr (“Rolair”). Now that we’ve got that decrypted for you… the Rohlehrs are an incredibly interesting and musically gifted couple. Married 13 years, they partner professionally as vocalists, songwriters, musicians, producers and music educators. As if that weren’t an impressive enough list of credentials, Andrea is also the author and illustrator of the children’s book There’s A Bug In The Tub!. They have worked with a variety of stellar artists including Regina Carter, bassist Muzz Skillings (formerly of Living Colour), Cuba Gooding Sr. of The Main Ingredient, Ashford & Simpson and Nancy Wilson. In 1997 the Rohlehr were winners of the President’s Award for Songwriting from the Songwriters Guild of America for Excellence in the Art and Craft of Songwriting. For JOYRIDE + ONE the goal as Andrea states was “to write and perform songs that invite people to relax and have a good time.” They certainly achieve that. A re-release of an earlier recording, JOYRIDE + ONE features all of the vibrant and soulful songs from the original with the addition of the marvelously expressive “Crazy For Your Love.” As James aptly puts it, “While teens and twenty-somethings can certainly have fun with it, this is music for people who can’t quite get into the mainstream pop music of today but who still want to go out, dance and party.
