notes

Soundcarrier is the name of the latest CD/DVD by singer/songwriter Ad Vanderveen, released by Sonic Rendezvous.
Not only has this artist produced a great body of soundcarriers in his career, it can be said that he is one. Hardly downloadable but
widely available in person.
This is shown on this set of a live-CD combined with a video-DVD.(REGION FREE )
• The CD was recorded during Vanderveen’s American tour 2007 with singer Kersten de Ligny, visiting famous music capitals
such as Nashville, Austin and Atlanta.
• The DVD features interviews, clips and “fly on the wall” footage from recording sessions of the latest twin-releases Fields Of
Plenty (2005) and Cloud Of Unknowing (2006).
The new live-CD is a registration of an inspired concert at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur/Atlanta, one of the prominent stages of the
American acoustic music scene. Many greats in the field of Americana music performed here and the CD clearly shows that the
music of the Dutch duo Vanderveen/de Ligny was appreciated with enthusiasm too. Well known Vanderveen songs were
recorded on Soundcarrier, as well as three brand new tracks.

  • the Sound Carrier, the one who plucks songs from his life and brings them to us

a so well chosen title! The CD contains a beautiful package of live-songs, farm-fresh recordings at Eddie’s Attic. Utterly sober soulful one-traveling-guitar songs as only Ad can sing them from his Own Diary. Seven well-known songs (including throat-grippers “To say I love you”, “Blues so bad”) get another dimension viewed in the light of the three new, in which Ad, referring to his first full CD “Lifeline” and his two lasts, continues on his new found track, explains the reason in “The Long Way Round”, drops his load in “Good Mourning (the weight is off my shoulders and the load is off my back”) as well as the load of the disappointing “Fairweather Friends (when your times are troubled you see them all fall behind”) and this rightly “when your life is in shambles you don’t need them around” (heavy stuff in a gripping naked little blues, ditto little plucking-melody on a walking bass, ánd his warm soulful voice, nothing more to add to perfection) Replace Friends by Songs, what remains in music are honest soulful songs, your true friends, a more than considerable number in Ad Vanderveen’s Entire Oeuvre. Cozy little chats and info in between makes a typical Vanderveen concert with sober sensefull songs easy to digest for everyone. Ad has dropped his self-therapeutic load, and we are receiving a beautiful musical present, a do-it-yourself-kit of sound-soul-keys, ánd a most intimate private concert at Our Own Attic! The DVD is a most interesting documentary in which the Master Himself talks about his music, its/his evolution, and the bend you can hear on this mysterious “Fields of Plenty” and the outbursting “Cloud of Unknowing”. Right on the spot you may witness the 100% biological recordings, which to my humble opinion are much warmer, more natural and powerful than the directed clips. Music reduced to the essence of the recordings, no chilly studio job but live at the different locations. No entertainment but arrogance-less sobriety. A glimpse in Vanderveen’s music-being. You see concentrated musicians, recording these song in only a couple of takes, instinctively trusting on one each others musical talents and feeling; aware or not aware of the running camera, anyway, unaware that these shots ever will be spread. Idem for the CD. Thus we can consider Soundcarrier as original bootlegs and as most interesting yummy vitamin snacks! a super cadeau for all the Ad Vanderveen lovers !
