The Universe Is Expanding

Elektrodelic sounds to drive your feet. Tones to tear into your soul. Words to live by. Imagine The Beatles getting together with Joy division at the The Beastie Boys' house party and you almost have it. A sonic revolution.

Who are they talking about???

Anything Box is an array of guitars, noise and computers to create binary tripped-out, emotionally tinged elektrodelic (Claude's word) pop music. The name comes from an obscure Sci-Fi short story from the 60's about a young girl who sees an idealized fantasy world when she cups her two hands.

Anything Box began in the bedroom of lead singer/songwriter Claude S. as an escape from the banality of everyday life in Paterson NJ, an urban town whose claim to fame is a High School principal who carried a bat in the halls, and where the first Colt 45 was built. Amidst the drug deals outside his kitchen window and bar fights across the street, Claude dove within the introverted comfort of songwriting influenced by John Lennon, Disco, Pink Floyd, The Kinks, Joy Division, New Order, and Kraftwerk.

After 25 releases and over 300 shows to match, Abox (as they are known to their fans) has since become an international oddity of electronic music. Live, their energy is matched only by their antics and the switching of instruments. With Paul Rjinders on guitars and synths, Dave South on bass and samples, and Gary (Claude's brother) providing back-beats with his mouth, they have created an ever-evolving sonic signature. In a word, elektrodelic.

On this album and its sequel, 'The Effects Of Stereo TV', Anything Box delves deeper into the farther reaches of the un-punkt disco closet where dreams are amplified by distortion and words you can remember, like a fantasy of the powerpuff girls hiding from robots in the back seat of your car. They are here to stay. The robots agree.

  • Great album that show how well the band evolved

This album shows how well the band has evolved through the years. They still keep their electronic sound along with the sounds of today. Great Album.

  • Another good album...

Another good album from Anything Box. I have been a fan for over 10 years and have, I think, their entire catalog. It is difficult not to purchase all of what they have to offer since it is all good. There is a different song for your different moods. The production on this album is worth the price of admission. Some songs have a Beatles-esque influence, further proving the reach of the original fab-four! Pick this one up...

  • New, exciting, and brilliant

This easily competes as the bands finest hour. It is considerably different than their older synthpop roots, as it fuses elements of rock, hip-hop and electronica. A tremendous listen from start to finish without a bad track in between. The songs are catchy, energetic, and produce a wide range of emotions. A extra plus, is the excellent artwork by Claude S, which really makes this CD a complete package. It definitely has my highest recommendation.

  • So glad I can get the CD!

All of the songs are very good. The exceptional ones are:WELCOME TO THE END,CLEAN,I'M ON MY WAY with my favorites being: BEST FRIEND, CONSTELLATIONS and the best one being: 65 MILLION MILES.(I prefer the songs without the loud, heavy noises). If you are an old school Abox fan, you will love this cd!
