notes
On three days in February, an award-winning 17-year-old songwriter and a member of Red Molly holed themselves up in a small wooden studio in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Out came the songs they used to be afraid to write. Real and raw, there's no feel-good hit of the summer here.
Over the course of the record, in the tradition of an old-school concept LP, love is found, confused, lost, rediscovered, and redefined. The songs are filled with worn acoustic guitars, wailing electric guitars, crying Dobros, walls of lap-steel, junk percussion, soulful strings, and heartfelt vocals, complimented by vintage amps and the earthy tone of a wood room. This album is evidence of the human condition, in all of its glory and pain.
REVIEWS-
"While Abbie Gardner and Anthony da Costa mine the territory blazed by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, by plumbing the depths of personal pain and joy, they extract gold. In its exquisite expression of longing and regret, Bad Nights - Better Days is a work of staggering emotional power. I can't stop listening."
-Richard Cuccaro, Acoustic Live! Magazine (NYC)
"What is most striking is the edge to the songs, the recordings are full of energy and life... they have a genuine feel of an honest recording that can often get lost in over-production."- Neil Pearson, Fish Records, UK
"Bad Nights/Better Days is absolutely beautiful. Whether Anthony is backing Abbie up or vice versa, their voices blend with a richness and warmth that pours over you. An emotional, evocative listen." - David Dirks, Acoustic Long Island
"Abbie Gardner and Anthony Da Costa represent the vanguard of the exciting artists that are coming up from the ranks of the contemporary folk/acoustic scene. Together they deliver a powerhouse performance on 13 songs that look at life and relationships from a unique and fresh perspective. A first rate recording that highlights each of their individual talents while underscoring a shared musical experience that is at the soul of the music they are creating."- Ron Olesko, WFDU

Bad Nights, Better Days
author: Michael UrbanoLot of soul in the lyrics and the vocals. Nearly wore out the Crazy in Love track, but resonated with Someday and I'd Rather Be too. Took a respite by going back to Eva Cassidy for a few days, but now it's time to return to Abbie. Hope to see her perform live again sometime really soon.

most of this cd is so amazing that it is completely worth the purchase. there are a few skipable tracks (I'd Rather Be, Crazy in Love), but the rest is complete genius if you like sad bastard music (I do). I listened to Anthony from a message board reccommendation and bought this disc 5 minutes into listening. Kid has a killer voice and can write a brilliant song. Buy this disc, and then buy Red Wanting Blue's 'These Magnificent Miles'.
awesome!
author: Christopher Cochranethis is a great album! if you like heartbreaking, aching, singer/songwriters such as ryan adams, damien rice, nick drake, and rachel yagamata check this out

Better Than Awesome
author: Michael JusticeAs a fans of Red Molly, there was no doubt we would buy this CD. Even so, from the first playing of the first track we had to stop everything and just listen to this incredible combination of voices and musical talent. Beyond awesome. Thanks Abbie and Anthony...
Honest Music!
author: Susan LangFriends making music together is what it's all about, and these two friends have nailed it here with songs that are honest and a little painful, harmonies that are intertwined but never overpowering, and arrangements that allow the beauty of the songs to shine through. It is never just about the songwriting with Abbie or with Anthony, and that is made very clear here with production and arrangements that absolutely compliment every note they've written. What an impressive collaboration this is!! I enjoy each of their solo work, and I suppose this collaboration was inevitable. Now - will they do it again? We can only hope! Nice job, y'all!
Folk with Edge
author: Charles NolanThis album succeeds by taking all the right chances with emotion and expression without taking any shortcuts with writing or performance. They managed to bang it out hot and fast, which keeps it spontaneous (Lord preserve us from folk albums tweaked to boring perfection) but are good enough at what they do to never get sloppy with the playing or the production. A welcome breath of fresh scorching air.
a great CD
author: Jeff BeckI loved the sound Abbie and Anthony make together. Great writing and vocals, Crazy in Love knocked me out.
Enjoy
author: Bill KingAbbie Gardner and Anthony da Costa are a perfect musical duo I would be willing go out on the limb and call them the “Musical Dynamic Duo” Anthony has a solo career and Abbie is 1/3 of Red Molly the hottest thing in Folk, Country and Traditional Music. They team so effortlessly and naturally. They think alike I don’t know if that is good or scary but it does not matter they gel perfectly. What more can one ask.. I must warn you however if you attend a live performance both Abbie and Anthony tend to tell on stage jokes that in the days of vaudeville would have the both of them having the off stage hook looking for there necks to drag them off stage. But don’t be discouraged that is a good thing in addition to the great harmonies they have you both laughing and booing there jokes. This is a must have CD go out and purchase a copy.
