notes
"Losing Faith" Winner of the MerleFest Chris Austin Song Contest 2006 Country Category.
“The beauty of Audrey's work is that she understands the power of simplicity. Whether it be in a traditional country setting or on the more edgy tracks her voice stays honest and true."
~ Kieran Kane
"Losing Faith" is a stunning follow-up to Audrey Auld's ARIA nominated debut release "The Fallen" - a debut which earned her international acclaim.
Featuring duets with three of the biggest names in alternative country - Fred Eaglesmith, Mary Gauthier and Kieran Kane and collaborative contributions from some of Australia's and the USA's best musicians - Bill and Kasey Chambers, Michael Carpenter, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Spenser Campbell, Camille Te Nahu, Gerry Hale, Mick Albeck, & Dave Steel.
Audrey's been to the depths of a broken heart and returns with one hell of a tale to tell. This is no jagged little pill, this is life administered intravenously. "Losing Faith" re-invents hillbilly rock, setting it with moments of acoustic sweetness, of innocence lost or regained. 13 tracks: novocaine candy for your old aches, and an oxy torch for the new. Auld takes musical and emotional fragments to forge a new whole, charming the phoenix from the ashes. These are adult emotions, not Nashville sentimentality. You can't help thinking: maybe she hasn't lost faith after all. Just redefined it.
Whether singing with Buddy Miller, or opening for Keb Mo, Paul Kelly, Lee Kernaghan or Kevin Welch, or taking the stage with Jim Lauderdale, Fred Eaglesmith, Kim Ritchie and Jason McCoy in the International Singer Songwriters Series, it is Audrey Auld herself that demands your attention as the stand-alone singer/songwriter. From Nashville's legendary Bluebird Cafe, to Billy Block's Western Beat, to appearing in Billboard - Auld's art is in the moving on, leaving the dobro to do the crying. With the power of alt. Rock and the pure integrity of roots music, "Losing Faith" walks hallowed ground.
It takes a traditional understanding to make Auld's 21st Century meld. CMAA nominations for 2001's Female Vocal and Best New Talent recognised Auld's capacity for innovation within tradition. Her success as a solo artist follows a 2000 CMAA nomination for Best Vocal Duo, for her work with Bill Chambers as Bill & Audrey.

Roughly hewn tone to her voice gives a sweetness to her songs
author: Drum Media, AustraliaAudrey steers far away from the boring quotient of mainstream country, coming closer to Kasey Chambers and Gillian Welch. She actually sounds quite like a female Richard Buckner. Losing Faith does just the opposite to the listener. The album is beautifully produced with enough variation on it to stave off any predictability.
Auld’s voice is the most important instrument in the arrangement
author: Holly Estrella del Dia ,Roots HighwayAlthough her sound blends in with country and contemporary folk artists of both today and yesterday, Auld’s voice is all her own. As if a heart could talk, Auld’s voice soars the darkest skies with the purest raw emotion reminiscent of an angel scorned twice over. Giving life to her gorgeous lyrics, Auld’s voice is the most important instrument in the arrangement. Offering everything from growls, snaps, whispers and scat solos, Auld’s voice is just another part of her that is “doin’ well”, fitting in perfectly with her musical environment that houses her heartfelt works. Though many are “losing faith” in the authenticity of today’s country music, Auld gives us all a reason to hang onto hope. As long as genuine emotion like hers continues to create songs to flood courage and spill tears, the future looks just fine.
Americana - Aussie style
author: Marcus Thell, SCC-Nytt (SCC-News) No. 2/2003Artist: Audrey Auld Title: Losing Faith Label: Reckless rec. By: Marcus Thell 3 hats (5 hats is the best you can get!) Australian Audrey Auld is back with a new record. This is her third release and as usual she has written most (11 of 13) songs herself. She also has Fred Eaglesmith, Mary Gauthier and Kieran Kane included on one track each. This CD isn´t as traditional as her earlier releases, but I still find it OK. Instead this release is more influenced by Kasey Chambers´ ”Barricades & Brickwalls“ release. The best songs here are the shuffle song ”Next Big Nothing“ (it alone is worth the entire price), ”B/Grade Affair“ (with Fred Eaglesmith) ,”Doin´ Well”, “Denied”, “Not Who I Am” and “You Did”. This CD and all other Audrey Auld records can be bought here or at www.recklessrecords.com
Americana with Australian-style twang
author: sherry austinIt's obvious from the first listen that audrey auld knows how to put a quality record together. Bringing in Australian guitar/dobro wiz, Bill Chambers, Mary Gauthier, and Keiran Kane among others, this is americana with a bit of twang (straight from australia) and full on sass. audrey knows how to craft a song and have you humming it all day.. From the title song to the sweet ending of Harmony, every tune shines.. No wonder Losing Faith tracked on the Americana chart last summer. One of my favorite albums of 2004.
A Modern-Day Wanda Jackson.
author: hillbillynationAudrey Auld could've come from another time. If she had she'd have arrived in the 50's - back when most great Country Music still had the dirt on it - she'd have surely been all over the Country charts. She's the equivalent of a modern day Wanda Jackson. Ballsy, earthy, tender and warm. Audrey's all of that. Her songs will stand the test of time too. They reach down in a common area in all our hearts and remind us of our roots and prod us along with enough subtle humor to let us laugh at our foibles and keep our journey's in perspective. We're blessed to have souls like her share her art. Thank you Audrey.
