notes
Heaven 17 "Hands Up To Heaven" from the forthcoming album "Before and After." Heaven 17 descended from Human League Mark I and the early collaboration between ex-Leaguers Marsh and Ware's B.E.F. with singer Glenn Gregory. In the '80s the band had chart hits in the UK, US and Europe, and hit the top ten again in the UK in the 90s with remixes of their early hits. This is the first new song from the band since 1998.
Moulin Noir "Descending (Upper Regions)" From the CD "Descending" on Burning Car. Moulin Noir has released a collection in the US on A Different Drum called "The White Room." Moulin Noir recalls great 80s bands like Classix Nouveau and Fashion.
Fr/action "Guardian (Club Mix)" Original version from the CD "Crimes of the Future" available on Cohaagen Music. The aggressive future-pop offerings of Fr/Action hint at the muscular beats on the debut Cd "Crimes of the Future." Fr/action is David Friede, one half of the popular synthpop band Ganymede.
Freezepop " Tracey Gold (ESH Mix)" Original version from the CD "Freezepop Forever." Remix by Empire State Human with additional production by The Duke. Uber-blippy synthpop band, Freezepop, continues to push synthpop in new directions with their infectious melodies and socially responsible lyrics about staking out boys, stealing bikes, and getting it on. Look for a new Freezepop full-length in 2003 as well as tracks for the PS2 in the games Frequency and Amplitude. visit www.freezepop.net for more info and goodies!
Astromill "Stranded In Manchester." From the forthcoming Ninthwave Album. Sheryl McMillan plays, produces and sings, heck, basically is Astromill. She has several projects going, Astromill being her more 80s influenced electronic project. She says this track is from her Pet Shop Boys period. www.astromill.com
White Town "Whenever I Say Hello". You may remember White Town from the out-of-left-field hit "Your Woman." Before and since White Town has forged a fiercely independent musical career. Look for a new White Town album on Ninthwavee in late 2003.
NukleoN "Homewrecker" - From the album "Earth Rising." www.nukleon.com . An earlier version of this song appeared on the first Electricity CD. Nukleon is from California and recently released the acclaimed "Earth Rising" CD on Cohaagen Music.
Cosmicity "The Dreamer" www.cosmicity.com. One of the pioneering groups in Modern Synthpop, Cosmicity's first CD came out in 1994. Since then, Cosmicity (Mark Nicholas) has released a total of 10 albums and numerous CD singles.
Empire State Human "We Are Industry'' (12" Extended Mix). Taken from the Ninthwave Records album release "Urbanism." Produced by Tycho Brahe http://tycho.gil.com.au. ESH, an Irish band, bring a sense of narrative and drama to electropop. They have composed music for film and commercials, as well as a number of remix projects for many other bands. Visit: www.empirestatehuman.com and http://tycho.gil.com.au
Masq "The Machines" From the Fall 2003 Ninthwave Records release "Clockworks." Frenchman Mark Trade performed all of the songs from his debut Clockworks "live."
Soviet " Marbleyezed (Freezepop Mix)" Original version from the CD "We Are Eyes We Are Builders. Soviet first stumbled across the modern synthpop scene opening the fabled 2000 Synthcon in LA. They were the highlight of that lost weekend for many. Since then the band has gained international press attention and toured the US extensively.
Spray "Don't You Know Who I Am?" Previously unreleased. Autobahn and McLaren were in The Cuban Boys, who rode a hamster to top 5 UK chart success. Later Autobahn would help Glenn Campbell Return to the UK top 20 with a scumpop update of Rhinestone Cowboy. Their debut album "Living In Neon" features the underground club hit "I Am Gothic."
ElectroSquad "Moment of Truth (Ganymede Remix)", additional production and remix by Ganymede. Two of the best modern Synthpop bands (ElectroSquad and Ganymede) come together to produce what was voted the Best Remix in the 2001 American Synthpop Awards. Be sure to check out ElectroSquad's latest project - Space March. www.electrosquad.com, www.spacemarch.com, www.ganymede.us
Macondo "It Couldn't Be Further From My Mind" After contributing to both the OMD and the Yazoo Tribute CDs, Macondo unleash their debut album this spring on Ninthwave. Classic electropop with an English accent. www.macondo.org.uk http://www.macondo.org.uk
Exhibition "Extraordinary" A staple of the LA Electro scene for several years now, Exhibition played at the first Synthcon. http://www.xhibition.net/
Passion Planet "Happy" Passion planet takes its name from a wonderful Thompson Twins b-side. You can find this lost Twins track on "Sedated in the 80s Volume 4."
Turd Ferguson "Alan Cumming - Nightcrawler Mix" www.gingersnapp.com/turd.html Though the band started with this song as a joke/spoof of Miss Kitten's "Frank Sinatra", a full length album may be in the foreseeable future!
