notes
8 Bit Weapon is the brainchild of Seth Sternberger. Seth has performed across two continents with an arsenal of 8 bit weapons, which include a Commodore 64 and 128, a couple of Nintendo Gameboy classics, an Intellivision synthesizer, hybrid lo-fi acoustic-electric drums, and an assortment of other vintage and toy synthesizers.
Inspired by classic videogame soundtracks and electronic music from the 70s and 80s, 8 Bit Weapon delivers a sound that is as unique as it is original. Clever melodies, nostalgic atmosphere, and energetic beats create a decidedly modern sound while maintaining a fun, lo-tech aesthetic.

It's like theme music from awesome NES games that never existed.
author: Chris CarleThose lucky enough to score a copy of the Limited Edition 8 Bit Weapon CD Vaporware Soundtracks have already been grooving to the goodness of Seth Strenberger (the force behind 8BW) for months. Now the rest of the world has a chance to hop on the wagon, as the entire album has been rejiggered, remixed, remastered and re-released as Vaporware Soundtracks 2.0. For those unaccustomed to the music of 8 Bit Weapon, it is made using old school videogame machines and computers. Everything from the Commodore 64 to the NES is employed in the service of ass-kicking music, and the result is an infectious blend of nostalgic goodness and danceable, soul-feeding beep-boop electronica. What's most curious about Vaporware Soundtracks is that although it is played with what many might consider soulless instruments, there is a passion that comes through in each and every song. It's clear that 8BW cares deeply about music, and wants to preserve the legacy of a simpler time with some very melodic and brilliantly conceived pop goodness. Most of the songs on Vaporware are completely instrumental, derived from the panoply of sounds made available on 80s era gaming consoles. "GameBoy Rocker" kicks off the album, and it's a driving, escalating tune that recalls some of the best themes in NES gaming. Think Contra or Bionic Commando with a danceable beat and heart of gold. "Sk8 Bit" builds on an infectious keyboard hook into a near-heroic anthem of 8 bit goodness, "Arcade" is a delirious electro scramble of warbling bass and vocoder lyrics, and "Bombs Away" recalls the weevil air raids from Centipede. "Panty Raid" is perhaps the most accessible track on the album as it employs bouncy, catchy vocals in the style of Freezepop. "Bit N' Run" gives a nod to some of the great chase and boss battle music of the era. It's not until Track 7, "Samurai Princess," where the record takes a dip into mellower, more forgettable fare. From there, it's a mixed bag of tunes. "Breathe Sleep Dream" is almost too chaotic and unstructured to stand on its own, but it would be perfect for an actual videogame score. Luckily, after a few less enticing tracks, the album rights itself with the ethereal space anthem "One Last Mission," which could easily be the theme music to any current space anime. Although Vaporware Soundtracks could stand to be a few tracks shorter, the overall experience is mesmerizing. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a session of Blaster Master or fought alien denizens in Life Force will instantly bond with this CD. Fans of the NES era should click immediately to the 8 Bit Weapon website and order the disc. Definitely Download: 1. GameBoy Rocker 2. Sk8 Bit 3. Panty Raid 4. One Last Mission
fun & goofy beeps & bloops
author: Dr. InfernoI saw 8-Bit Weapon at an art opening. He was great. I downloaded his free CD. It's great. This CD wasn't as fun as the other one or his live performance, but it's definitely keen. Very fun & funny.
The moog cookbook raped my NES!!!
author: Virgil Denny IIThe CD is very high energy and made me want to shake my fat tush the whole way through. Very Ingenious, the whole album had the offbeat(in a good way) undertone of British IDM. As soon as I get the funds, this disc will be part of my collection and in my favorites playlist. Keep up the good work!!!

author: Michelle ForshnerThe 8-bit era has been revitalized with the clever and unique musical stylings of Seth Sternberger's homage to the games and culture of yesteryear. From the Commodore 64 to NES, these classics were the tools with which to create music that not only evokes fond memories in the minds of old-school gamers, but also opens new doors for those born into the modern era of gaming. Influenced by a mixture of classic games and trance-like electronica, 8 Bit Weapon integrates the sometimes-flat feel of simple yet catchy video game music with a new wave of emotion that only Sternberg could create with such pizzazz and feeling. The music is nostalgic and innovative, unite old and new into a new sound. The catchiest track is “Bit n Run”, reminiscent of captivating battle scenes with taxing bosses and a wealth of other challenges. “One Last Mission” was my personal favorite, bringing back memories of high-speed space action and plots.
