A tight, bright, infectious blend of island rhythms, contemporary jazz . Very accomplished, very musical a world-music hybrid of salsa, soca, frocuno and gospel ...3D draws from this multitude of influences to create a cohesive musical whole.
Drummer Michael Tate and guitarist Chris Amelar formed 3D in 1999 to write and perform music that is diverse, dynamic and danceable. While their recordings feature original material, live performances by the band also include inspired interpretations of a wide variety of popular music.
Showtime with 3D will take you from Havana to New Orleans, infusing a savory taste of melody and rhythm. Be assured, these men come to play.
The musicians in this group have performed with Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Jennifer Lopez, West Indian Day Carnival, NJ Mass Choir, Herman Olivera, Cab Calloway, Ray Vega, Harry Belafonte, Oscar Hernandez, Chaka Khan, Michael Urbaniack, Phil Keaggy and many other popular artists. In addition, the members of 3D have recorded for Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Sony Records.
RITMO DE VIDA is a vibrant production with 10 songs balancing vocals and instrumentals with a refreshing and original sound, presenting salsa, boleros, socarengue, Latin jazz and frocuno.
Drummer Michael Tate and guitarist Chris Amelar are the founding members of the band, and even though they are Americans, both feel and play the Latino sound with such force that the listener believes that they are Latins. Keyboardist Lenny Underwood joins them in live performances and this recording. Talented singer Herman Olivera lends his voice to 3 of the songs included on this album.
With RITMO DE VIDA, 3D breaks away from the old prejudices and rules to establish new styles with global character. With this record the audience can dance or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music.

This band really creates a new concept from traditional elements.
author: Kevin HumphrisThe band 3D’s latest Cd, “Ritmo de Vida” is a diverse and inspiring mix of original Latin/Tropical music that grabs your attention and never lets go. Those who live for strong melodies and thumping rhythms should make it a priority to pick up this disc. This band really creates a new concept from traditional elements. Many of their songs are hybrids of different rhythms and some styles they play such as “Frocuno”, are totally new. 3D is a truly accomplished and unique band and their Cd is sure to have something for everyone. Highly recommended! -Kevin Humphris

author: Marzanna="Ritmo de Vida" is the latest Latin/Tropical release from the New York based group 3D. Led by the group's drummer Michael Tate and guitarist Chris Amelar, 3D's music is a unique blend of Latin styles, West Indian rhythms and the sounds of New Orleans. The entire Cd is masterfully composed, arranged and performed with lyrical melodies and thumping grooves that compel the listener to shake and sing along. Also lending their talents to this Cd are special guests Herman Olivera on vocals, Ray Vega on trumpet and Oscar Hernandez on piano. All the performers featured on "Ritmo de Vida" display a strong command of their craft and a deep understanding of the idioms. Some of the notable highlights on this disc are "Mi Amor Tu Volveras", a passionate salsa piece featuring Olivera on vocals, "Sobrevivir", a sensuous bolero, and the title track "Ritmo de Vida", a fiery and kicking socarengue. Other high points include Latin jazz numbers "Otra Vez" and "Eliana", both of which showcase the formidable talents of trumpeter Ray Vega and keyboardist Lenny Underwood. One of the most interesting aspects of the Cd is the inspired blending of styles as heard on cuts like "Guanta Rico" (Cuba meets New Orleans), "Con Los Manos Arriba" (a marriage of West Indian Soca and Salsa), and the truly unique "Country Cubano" (Clint Eastwood visits a church in Puerto Rico). This creative melding of genres is one of 3D's greatest strengths. What I especially enjoyed about this Cd was the timeless quality of the songwriting and the skillful and natural manner that the various styles were combined. 3D displays a genuine artistry here that is rarely found in recordings these days. A very strong effort from a new and rising force in contemporary music. I highly recommend "Ritmo de Vida". FIVE STARS!!!
