notes
All the members of the .357 STring Band have been active members in the punk/rockabilly scene in the midwest for years before deciding to go bluegrass. Their Live show has been referred to as "Hoe-down meets Throw-down" by many reviewers.
The .357 STring Band's unique mash of punk and bluegrass echoes both old-school country and traditional mountain music, but the group is much harder to define than it might seem. The Milwaukee bands' amped-up, all acoustic sound has won praise from the purist likes of Wayne Hancock, and JD Wilkes of Those Legendary Shack Shakers. These boys have managed a sound all their own accomplishing the nearly impossible by bringing together scenesters from ALL genres.
Plucking banjos, spinning upright bass and blended harmonies arent what one would expect from this quartet, but that only adds to their allure

.357 string band - ghost town
author: chrisThis CD is just awesome, purchased the mp3 format, but was soooo good I just had to have a physical copy so bought that too. Worth it for "stillest hour" alone.

Along with Split Lip Rayfield, these guys are the best blue grass I've ever heard. Wish I would have bought this CD along time ago! Can't wait for their new CD to come out this month. Damn sure won't take me as long to buy that one as it did this one.

I agree with the guy who wants 8000 more albums from .357. Won't the band please come to Colorado? I put the CD in when the mailman gave it to me, and I listened to it four times in a row. And I could listen more. It fuckin rocks.

Great album. Hearing this reminds me of the first time I heard Split Lip Rayfield. Great modern blurgrass that gives a nod to the past, but is not stuck in it. You really should buy this!

Was recommended this CD by a freind. Didn't get around to buying it for a few weeks, and just got it 2 days ago. Easily the best CD I have bought in a LONG time. It's relentless fast tempo mixed with dark, well written lyrics makes for a truly intense experience. I reccomend this to anybody looking for something original and completley badass..
awesome!!
author: blissjunkiebest cd I bought this year. Greatest live performers I've seen in ages!!! I cry every day for those who pass over this album.
Great Album
author: Panhead1952Bluegrass on speed. Excellent. Highly recommended!
Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good...yup, pretty good
author: manzerStarts off with one hell of a "Pig in a Pen" cover and then rushes through the emotions of elation to depression to despair. "Stillest Hour" is one of the best bluegrass songs I have heard in my life. This CD is a must have.
Punkgrass
author: inklingiteThe CD starts by blowing the cigarette out of your mouth with a pistol and leaves you battered and surprised. Relentless banjos, wildly oscillating fiddling, and lyrics bordering on nihilistic despair keep your sensibilities at bay. The cream rising to the top of this tankard of atheistic pain are the songs "Up Jump the Devil" (a Faustian fiddle-fest), and "Riot Act" (not for the conformist-of-heart). Sprawling and stark, the lyrics and music combine with the subtlety and style of a barroom brawl. Why *woulnd't* you listen?
buy this cd!
author: andibest cd i've heard in a long time...ALL the songs kick ass!
Great soulful and disturbing
author: Ms DeatherageI really appreicate this type of music. It is raw, real and gritty, some of the tunes are also very spooky. This is what real country should sound like, not that crap that is played on the radio. That's all folks!
this is fun
author: christoph from goerlitz/germanyI can recommend this CD especially to every fan of Split Lip Rayfield. Banjo, guitar, mandolin, upright bass and sometimes a fiddle (there´s no need for more) combined with great songwriting: this is finest bluegrass with punk influences. It is huge fun listening to.
Kickass streetgrass
author: JessicaThere arent many cd's that I like every song on it but this is one of the few that I do. Amazing songs!! I would definitely get this CD if you are reading this review

From start to finish, the debut CD by The .357 String Band kicks ass. You don't have to love punk to love this album, nor do you have to love bluegrass to love it. If you pigeon-hole yourself into either category - EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS AND BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!!!

author: T. JuniorLots of great songs on this album, especially Up Jump the Devil and Evil on My Mind. I highly recommend this album to anybody who enjoys bluegrass/punk fusion or good whiskey-swillin slamgrass. Buy this album!
Top of the line bluegrass; top of the line punk
author: Dylan RodgersAlright ladies and gents, clean off yer dancin' boots 'cause you'll be dancin' 'til dawn! The .357 Stringband's debut album, Ghost Town, is guaranteed to make you do three things: Tap your toes, pound some beers, and give you a whole new outlook on bluegrass. Ghost Town takes all the best elements of traditional bluegrass and streetpunk to create a raw, young--yet mature--sound that is all their own. Think Jimmy Martin mixed with a cocktail of speedballs and alcohol. So crack open your Pabst Blue Ribbon (your're gonna need it) because here comes Ghost Town!
The CD is dope!
author: Chim RichaldsThe best thing Ive heard all damn year. My CD collection starts and end with this debut
