Album Notes

20 Bulls Each were Formed in 2002 in Dublin, Ireland. The original line up consisted of Gareth Cummins on Guitar and Vocals, Gavin Husselbury on Guitar, Paul Duffy on Drums and Derek O'Neil on Bass. 20BE quickly started gigging around Dublin and recorded demos in Kildare and Dublin. In 2003 20BE Parted ways with Derek and Trev Ward joined on bass and an EP was recorded in Creamy Sonic Studios Dublin. This was followed by a short tour of the UK with Friends Koala Attack. In 2004 20BE Parted ways with Trev and Ray Goode took over on Bass, A split CD with Northern Irish punks Mellow Dramatic took place and sold out of print. Around this time 20 Bulls Each toured everywhere and anywhere they could get gigs increasing their fanbase hugely. In early 2006 the band went to Creamy Sonic Studios and recorded their debut album "Lost Causes" In mid 2006 to continue their tradition of killing bassists Ray split and long time friend of the band Ciaran Mangan took over. To date 20 Bulls Each have played with bands such as.. boysetsfire, FVK Cro Mags, Turbo AC's, Million Dead, Total Chaos, Berkley, The Dangerfield's, Koala Attack, La Fraction, Goldblade, Blood Or Whiskey, Hard Response, Steel Nation, Blackbirds and more. The band have a high emphasis on DIY and routinely organise their own gigs and releases. They also ran their own recording studio for 2 years until in true CBGB style the rent was raised and they bailed the f*ck out. With influences ranging from The Misfits to Sick Of It All, 20BE's sound has been described as Melodic Hardcore, due to its crushing riffs and vocals that still have a sing-along quality. 20 Bulls Each have toured all over Ireland, England, Scotland and the USA and chances are they are playing near you in the future.

Solid
author: Adam
I ran across these guys just listening to punk channels on Last.fm, and they caught my attention right away with \"Icon,\" which remains my favorite track--they deserve a lot more attention. Solid, thrashing, singalong hardcore. An element of their sound that I noticed in particular was the double bass drum, whose machine-gun effect has become a fixture in the pain-in-the-ass metalcore that has become ubiquitous these days (part of the maddening trend of applying the term \"hardcore\" or some part of it to music that is patently metal--which is fine, but don\'t call it hardcore!). I digress. My point is that 20BE judiciously incorporates the pleasing, visceral pummelling of the double bass into an identifiably hardcore sound--thus advancing the genre without corrupting it, in my opinion. Great stuff! Come back to the US you guys! I\'ll help post flyers. (Yeah, how come I haven\'t heard of other Irish hardcore bands?)

easily one of hard-core's best

with a driving rock sound, lost causes provides angst for all ages. the songs touch on issues that nearly all rock fans can relate to, such as the seeming futility of life in a world controlled by corruption and privelege, media sensationalism and struggling to find self in a herd of blissfully ignorant conformists. the fade-in intros of 'patron saint' and 'resolve' are a bit weak, but don't detract from the songs' or album's hard-core vibe. 'bow down' is a great choice for the first track and sets the tone for the entire album, while 'make your stand' makes it extremely easy to look like an idiot as you sing along, stopped in traffic, at a red light. long story short: slam your energy drink, raise your arm, extend bull horns and get ready to bounce around.

this is NOT some shitty Kerrang am-i-hardcore-punk-metal-or-what

20 Bulls Each are one of the few Irish bands doing the straight up hardcore punk thing (theres plenty of bands doing crust, punk, but few doing this). This is their first album, having released an EP ("Make Your Stand") and split CD with Mellow Dramatic, both on their own Fail Records, as is this new one "Lost Causes", some tracks off their previous releases and a bunch of new ones. Their music is really tight and obviously the spent a fair bit of time on this and didnt just fuck it out. Gar has a great vocal range - singy parts, shouty parts, snappy parts, and the other boyos (Gav, Ray, Paul) all do great on their respective instruments, and with the backups! Things kick off with "Bow Down" a great song (one of my favs) that goes along nice and fast with some great backing vocals, one of those total singalong choruses, and is one of my favs of the CD. "Fail" continues in a similar fast pace with vocals being a mix of singy and slightly screamy, and some more good melodic backup
